Any Legnano experts out there?

Hey, folks!

I recently acquired an old Legnano, and have no idea what I have. Looking around, I see those things going for anywhere between a few hundred and several thousand dollars. It's got a good bit of surface rust, but nothing a bit of sand paper and some fresh paint couldn't fix.

But is it crappy enough to make a winter commute bike out of, or nice enough to post on Ebay and buy a commuter I don't need to put a lot of work into? Help!

Here's what I know:

-The serial number is EY8098 with a second serial number of *1779E stamped next to it. From the format, I think the first is the original.
-Both these numbers are on the seat post clamp, and the seat post clamp gap is on the front of the seat tube, just under the top tube- both those things point to it being late-50's to early 60's.
-I found a 1961 Legnano ten-speed on CL that looks identical.
-It has a Sun Tours rear derailleur and a Campi front. These may be original.
-It has Campi rear dropouts, which I understand points to it being a race bike.
-It's silver with red accents.
-Rear spacing is 120 cm- very narrow by modern standards.

Anybody know anything about this sort of thing? I've had huge trouble finding info about specific dates and models on these things. Thanks!
