Well, in Spira all our Machines, or what Yevon called "Machina", were lost some thousand years ago during a war. So what the Machine Faction did, in a nutshell I suppose, was go around and bring the lost artifacts of our more prosperous past back into use.

We used the new found Machines to help Spira out as best we could.

Yeah. I really don't know how we managed to get so large. Originally it was just me trying to figure out how to lead the Al Bhed so we weren't always getting our asses kicked out of our homes.

But when I left, the Machine Faction represented just about a third of Spira's total population.

Errr, it's kinda complicated.. But I guess how it all worked out was that Yevon thought that by using the Machina we'd bring about a second apocalypse. So they sent armies of Fiends to destroy our Home.
