Kick Ass weekend
So yeah this weekend rocked. It started out Friday with me coming down with a cold (probably because I worked my ass off in the garden Thursday and then didnt eat well, and I'm sure the idiots tearing siding off our townhome at 7:30am two days in a row had *nothing* to do with it) and worrying that it was going to make for a sucky weekend. It did make for a not so productive painting day on Friday. However, upon blissfully sleeping in Saturday morning I awoke and spent a lazy afternoon with Rich before heading out to the Bulldrek BBQ at Bret's house. For those of you who have no idea what Bulldrek is (i.e. most of my friends list)it's basically an IRC channel and message board where I've been hanging out during the day of late. Josh, one of the guys I roleplay with introduced me to it.
Anyways, I had a great time getting a chance to meet people in person and hang out. Bret made burgers and brats. We had the Santa Fe ones he got from from Whole Foods. mmmmm... yummy. Rich and I were the first ones there but many more people showed up over the next couple hours. We played some Carcassone as people filtered in and then a douple people played Settlers and another group played Kung Fu Samurai. Reminder to self, never let Bret demo games. At some point we degenerated into watching Ramstien videos and then attempted a game of Cranium. I was drunk enough that Cranium was amusing as opposed the just plain dumb as I'm sure it would have been sober. Any game that has whistle this tune you've never heard of so your teammates can guess it and "playdo" to sculpt with that doesnt stretch needs help. I think I'll stick with Pictionary. Got paired up with Rich and Kara who is Josh's SO as teamates and had fun BSing even though we were losing badly. :) Sometime later or earlier, I'm not actually sure when Rich and I spent some time jabbering with Jason, who is joining our gaming group, about writing and Shadowrun and stuff. Was cool. Near the end of the night, beggining of the morning? we played some XXXenophile with Kara and Jason while I used Josh as a back rest because he had crashed across the couch.
Headed home at something like 5am and I stayed up till about 6am checking my email and making sure I got some more water into my system before I crashed out. Determined from my email that I will be doing some miniatures painting for Magificent Egos the next two weeks and went to bed. Sunday was spent recovering in the sun on the porch with Rich while eating some wonderful veggie soup that my mother made for me the day before. Later on we went out to Borders and picked up a couple books. I hate buying books new, they are just so expensive, but Rich had a coupon and he really wanted the book, so I wandered through the fantasy stuff and picked up a Mercedes Lackey book that I hadnt been able to find at the used book stores. Then it was home for dinner and off to see Harry Potter as a family outing. Mind you we got there and the showing Dad wanted to see was on IMAX. Now for some bizzare reason Dad and Jackie dont like IMAX so we wandered around for about 45 minutes till the next showing. Cheyenne decide to bail on us, something about homework. I'm more inclined to beleive he was looking for an excuse nto to go. Oh well, his loss is was a pretty good movie and moved at a pace that ment I didnt really notice that it was actually two hours and twenty minutes long. THe hippogryph was superbly done and the movie over all was quite enjoyable if not quite as lighthearted as the other two. One of these days I'm going to sit down with the Harry Potter movies and watch all the scenery instead of actually watching the movies.
