their call a sharp edged dirge
splicing through the music and alcohol.
I reach into that place behind the unwritten laws
where people break with the weight of the moment.
Break and snap with the reality of emotion
slowly sliding up the small of their past
where we dreamed and wondered
in that murky space, where curiosity and loyalty collide,
for how long will my heart stop from you?
How many breaths will be with you?
And those eyes. Your apologizing eyes speaking to the side of me
