So, I'm supposed to be on a cruise today with my parents and a bunch of people from the awards ceremony for my book, but somehow the plan to meet at the hotel in Hamburg fell through and my parents didn't show up. Instead, they went straight to the dock, and I waited in my room, since I didn't know where the dock was. Oh well, I guess I have a free afternoon in Hamburg, maybe I'll just go to a couple friends' old apartment and see if they still live there, if I can still find it, that is.
In other news, the Fritz Reuter Medallion doesn't even have a little hole for putting a ribbon through and wearing like a necklace. Rip. Off. What am I supposed to do with an over-sized coin?
And it yet other news, I met Wolfram Eicke, the brother of an old school friend of a former professor of mine, who has published 24 children's books in Germany. We got along smashingly, sung a bunch of songs (he's also a professional musician and writes musicals) and I offered to translate his stuff into English. He thought the idea was smashing, and gave me a copy of his latest book which is coming out at the end of the summer, so I could read it and make a more realistic estimation of the translation prospect. Of course, it still depends on the publishing house, since they own the rights, but if the book does get translated, I'll most likely be the one to do it. Exciting, even if it's still rather theoretical. Das Leben besteht aus schoenen Zufaellen.
The news goes on. In a little over 12 hours, I will be on a plane back to Minneapolis. Further proof that time does pass.
Oh, and I'm supposed to post my 6 favorite songs, which is too hard, so I'll just post a few songs that I like a lot and that occur to me right now: Mayfly by Rasputina, Walk Like an Egytian, Rez/Cowgirl, alla gossar, wir sind gekommen um zu bleiben, ich und elaine, heute hier morgen dort, boy/girl song, manchmal ist ein Tag... yeah and some more too.
