Berlin 2

For this nostalgic moment, I'll resort to the wisdom of Rasputina: The scene is never what it used to be. Simson is no more. In it's place there is another bar. Not a bad place, but not Simson. There used to be a scooter manufacturer in the same space named Simson, and when the bar moved in, they left the name on the window and become the Simson Bar. Dark, creepy decorations, punks, a bar with a WW2 tank track wrapped around it, you could ash on the floor and pass out in the bathroom. I hung out there anyway since there was indeed still a foosball table, though not in the same place exactly. The whole space has been renovated (about 2 months ago, according to the bar tender). I met two guys named Tomi and Victor. Victor is from Spain and has a very serendipitous story about the advent of his life in Germany. It made me remember that life goes on, regardless of whether you do. Berlin is slowly becoming less hip. The west and east lose their delineation. The scene is never what it used to be. In fact, by the time you can define it as a scene, it's almost certainly less cool than it was 'back in the day'. I don't live here anymore, and can't live in what I remember. Max is probably making movies somewhere. Brian is probably dead or sleeping on somebody's couch in Istanbul. Lena is actually probably still here but in Kreuzberg. Noll... no idea. Francis might have hit the big time with his band, or maybe they broke up and he's getting money from the state and looking for a job back in Hamburg. As the muppets said, movin' right along. Yeah. Berlin rocks. But it's getting late, and I've got a full day of sight seeing tomorrow (not that I haven't seen them all, but I'm my parents native guide), so it's time to finish this post. Later.
