This is what I do for fun!
I am always a little worried when I post my music on this journal. I tend to assume that most folks don’t care about it. In some ways it’s being that geeky kid back in school again: I assume that aside from the rest of the band geeks that no one else could possibly be interested in what I’m doing.
On the other hand, I am proud of what I do. So I try to sneak bits up here and pep them up to see if folks comment on them. I’m going to do it again, because, well… if you are interested in them, these pieces have a few glimmers of what I do. And they are awesome.
Cartoon - This piece is an amazing take on a cartoon score. It can be a bit hectic, but some sections remind me a lot of Warner Brothers scores. Another section sounds a LOT of “Mouse in Manhattan.” The reason I am posting it: It really is a tour de force and shows just how phenomenal some of the playing is in this band. I’m very lucky to be in a group this good. That and I love cartoon music. Fabulous stuff.
If you’re ever curious what the instrument I play sounds like, there are quick licks at 0:20, 1:24 and 1:27 where it is just raunchy, solo and loud. I’m that bassy reedy sound.
Variations on a Korean Folk Song - This is more standard band fare. If you played in a decent high school or college band, you might have had a chance to read this piece. The selfish reason I post this here is that around 1:30 the fast-paced theme is stated by me and the flutes. It’s a fast and difficult solo passage and I basically nailed it. In college, I couldn’t play this. I can now.
