I'm sitting on the couch right now with a big grin on my face that won't come off. Not that I want it to anyway, but yeah...just happy.
Grad went off without a hitch yesterday and I'm done with AMI. Finally done with that damn place. Dad and D picked up Mom in Truro and brought her down for the ceremony. They popped in here to get me and I answered the door in my PJ pants and a dress shirt. Classy, I know. Mom hadn't seen the place yet so that was kind of cool. Of course Dad immediately asked if there was a beer in the fridge (it was about 11:30am). I was maybe a bit too proud when I said no, because I'd had the last one Thursday night to celebrate.
Anyway, we get to grad and everyone starts filing into the church hall. It seemed to take forever as Garry and Troy talked on for a while but then the Murph took control of the floor. Steve Murphy talked for about 5 minutes and then fielded questions from us for another half hour or so.
Then time to get the damn piece of paper I've been waiting for forever. It's amazing what kind of paper 12 grand buys you these days. I wonder if I could sell it on the street. All I'd need is some white out and I could write that person's name on it. Any takers? When our names were called we walked up and got our diploma from the Murph, posed for pics and then hugged/shook hands with Renee, Garry and Troy.
So after they're all handed out it's picture time with everyone. People grabbing others by the shoulder or dragging them to a corner somewhere, group pics, you get the idea.
I was one of the first ones to leave because of a phone call I received before leaving for grad. I had to go to Q104 to fill out the paper work yesterday afternoon to begin my radio career. I'm part time in the news department for the Q and training begins tomorrow morning at 5am. I'm so damn excited. I may not get on air regularly until January but that doesn't bother me. I know I need some training for their system, new formats, etc so I'll take my paychecks anyway. It means I get to stay in Halifax for the near future, I get my foot in the door of the radio business and I get to work for an awesome station.
Last night everyone met up at Tomasino's for the big grad dinner. The food was exceptional, the atmosphere was great and it was just a damn good time. It was weird at the end hugging everyone and such...knowing that the people I'd seen virtually every day for the past 16 months were dispersing everywhere. Some are leaving as early as today. Most everyone went downtown after the meal but I took the car down and didn't want to leave it there or give myself an opportunity to drive home drunk. I thought about Operation Red-Nose or whatever it's called but there's no way in hell I'd have remembered about it.
So here I am. Typing this out, grinning ear to ear and just...happy. Strange days indeed.
