More of the Best Music of 2005

20. Clap Your Hands Say Yeah! - The Skin Of My Yellow Country Teeth

The vocals on this song scream 'one hit wonder' to me but then people must have said that the first time they heard a Talking Heads song. Stupid people.

19. Gorillaz - Feel Good Inc.

Damon Albarn is back and Dan the Automator's DJ spot is taken by the ubiquitous Danger Mouse and a new circle of MCs. I declare this to be good music to dance to.

18. Sigur Ros - Saeglopur

In Iceland, things are a bit different. For example, rather than drugs or gang violence, the primary threats for Icelandic children are gnome trickery and goblin abduction. While the musical stylings of such fairy-tale creatures is generally not accepted in mainstream Icelandic society, a young band such as Sigur Ros will embrace the raw, vulgar style of local nymphs and dryads in rebellion against the establishment. Ironically, such Icelandic bands are often well received by foreign record labels as they're taken to be 'soothing' or 'atmospheric.' Saeglopur, in English, means an illicit act performed upon or with a unicorn.

17. John Prine - I Hate It When That Happens To Me

Well I once knew a man who was going insane.
He had left us and ran up a tree.
It took the police and a firetruck just to bring him back down.
Oh, I hate it when that happens to me.

16. Buddy Guy - Cut You Loose

Buddy Guy is possibly the greatest living singer and player of electric blues music and somehow he's also one of the misused. So many of his recent albums are producer driven schlock, filled with lame cover songs and pointless guest appearances. But even in a bad Buddy Guy album they'll have at least one track where they just plug him in and let him play and sing for 7 minutes, 40 seconds and its gold. Now if they would just let him do that for 70 minutes, 40 seconds that would be a great Buddy Guy album.
