My aunt, uncle and cousin were all there too. My cousin is 16 and a pretty hard core Green Day fan, and he loved it -- I couldn't BELIEVE his parents did too and they all want to go back again.
Theatrical aspects were excellent, so even if you don't catch everything they were singing, you can enjoy the performance too. But there are a lot of drug scenes so some people may be offended.
Are you going to see AI? I have a feeling you'd like it too.
Did you like Spring Awakening? I was lukewarm to the show. For AI, the minnute I abandoned my wish for more book/storyline in the show, I could focus on more the theatrical aspects (direction, lighting, projection etc) and could enjoy the show. Like I said, I couldn't relate any of the characters by the end of the show and still enjoy the performance. It was a first to me!
Oh, I liked SA. I saw it three times. (Even though I couldn't relate to anyone on stage and felt old. ;) ) I actually think I might've liked AI better had I never seen SA or Rent, because I kept seeing things that reminded me of both shows.
