We had a big long conversation with host-mom tonight about the differences between Australia and Russia. After about 45 minutes she's calls to her son and these are the (obviously important) things she mentions:
*You can't drink beer on the street
*Cigarettes cost about 50 times more
*They check for ID when you buy alcohol and cigarettes
We were explaining the health care system to her and I said:
"Well, we have a public system and a private system. The private system is for the rich people."
To which Scruff replies:
"No it's not. Don't you have private health insurance?"
To which I reply,
"Uhh, no. Why don't I just go eat some cake now?"
WTF. I'm sorry, my parents were too busy feeding us to pay for private health insurance. But then again, they also don't feed me, clothe me and give me food anymore either. It's called being independent. I also don't lie to my parents, charge their credit cards for over-priced ADIDAS jackets and then bitch about students who are on Centrelink (it would appear that their parents are deficit for not doing such things). /end rant
rants,
