badfaggot has the most intoxicating laugh/giggle. It comes from a place deep within him. I was stoked to meet him on Friday, merely from pictures
thornyc has put up in the past. Thankfully, he wasn't put off when I randomly said hello ("Are you...M*** from LiveJournal? We don't know each other but we are one degree separated!"), and we had a nice chat. Super sexy, smart, lovely man, pretty much everything I'd ever heard. And it was his first time in a San Francisco bar!
The Blowoff bus ran me over last night, going about 128 BPM. Sexy, aggressive sounds from Bob Mould and Rich Morel, the latter of whom wrecked me with remixes of Weezer's "Troublemaker" and (of all things), Tears For Fears' "Pale Shelter". (The crowd went apeshit over that track.) After talking to Rich last night, he said he got inspiration to do it while hearing "Sowing the Seeds of Love" in an Atlanta bathroom last week. He put the Pale Shelter remix together on Thursday for last night's show.
Thursday.
The crowd was loving the aggressive sound, and lots of smoking hot guys from DC to NY to LA had travelled to SF to see the debut Blowoff. I think no one was disappointed. Turns out you can play vocals with dance music without having to play that screaming diva vocal shite (not that I mind some of my divas). I threw myself into it, so much so that we ended up going to The End Up until 5:30 this morning to keep that feeling going. I didn't realize until we got to The End Up how much I had really danced, panting and sweating. Blowoff is a shot of adrenaline this dancing bear scene needed, and it's only a matter of time, given how poorly this one was advertised, before it becomes the event to look forward to, to set your calendars by, every two months.
Yes, I did say 5:30 am. I'm missing a BBQ right now and doing some laundry, hoping to gather the strength to head down to the Lone Star in an hour. Bob and Rich will be there, and I'd love to buy them both a beer.
