Dropping and giving
liquid_wayno 10...Play along if you like.
Reply to this post, and I will assign you a letter of the alphabet. Use that letter to name 10 songs, and why you chose that particular song.
My assigned letter was "R":
Roads - Portishead (Man, will they please release another album? I can only listen to these two LPs, for like, the next ten years. If you ever get a chance to see them live, call in sick, cancel that hot date, whatever. Easily in the Top Three best shows I've ever been to.)
Rocket - Smashing Pumpkins (Still my favorite song off of Siamese Dream...something hopeful and inspiring about this song that has always stuck with me. The video-directed by Jonathan Dayton and Valerie Faris of Little Miss Sunshine fame-is also pretty damned cute and brilliant as well.)
Run Run Run - Phoenix (This never fails to make me the white boy nod and shuffle. If no one's around, I've been known to dance to it on BART platforms.)
Remember - AIR (Another in the nodding and grooving vein. What is up with all these French bands making up my chilled out soundtrack?)
Reel Around The Fountain - The Smiths (This song breaks my heart everytime I hear it. Duncan Sheik does a fierce cover of it that I've never been able to find anywhere. If you ever happen to, can you send it along?)
Reptile - The Church (Man, it's all about that unmistakable guitar riff. A true flashback of my childhood...I've never stopped loving this song and can play it over and over.)
Rio - Duran Duran (The second album I bought as a kid...the first being their first LP. I was hooked by that saxophone solo, and had posters of them all over my wall. And of course, it still holds up.)
Re-Offender - Travis (I don't buy full albums by Travis anymore after getting burned by their first 2 LPs, but I've got to hand it to them...they always craft two or three songs on each album that are delicious keepers, and this had got to be my favorite by them. Sad and shimmery.)
Reason - Melanie C (Scoff if you will. I know I did when a friend included this on a compilation he gave me for Christmas, thinking it was going to be a cheeseball track. But it's a hell of a ballad, showcases Sporty Spice's vocals, and has gotten a TON of play on my iPod. It's got a lot more soul than I would have ever expected.)
Revenge - Madonna (The best b-side in her unreleased stable. Apparently it was a Ray of Light (produced by William Orbit) track that didn't make the album, and to this day, I don't understand why. It's a dancefloor rocker and could have easily been a single. I snagged it while looking for another track of hers, and still can't get enough of it. One of these days the right DJ is going to find it and remix the hell out of it...not that it needs it.)
