Earlier today this girl came in and ordered a cherry soda. She wore a bright white t-shirt and had thick red hair that swung like pendulums past her cheeks, cords of crimson curls. She sat outside with her dad in the evening.
Inside I sweeped all the dust bunnies.
Later tonight Alex and James came over. It seems we're slowly falling back into the comfortable rhythm of spring break: constant interaction, the tacit understanding that every waking second we are free of jobs and parents we will meet and plan to go where we can be. Truth be told, it's very exciting, and I always look forward to deep and clear immersion. After such a long time living in the eyesights of your peers you come to know your actions, and this knowledge makes your life at home a drag. Who needs your parents, a connection you've known forever? Living with peers is a constant surprise, a scary and energizing thing. It's what drives us as adults: being on our own, living as one of the world's many instead of one with a native few. I look forward to Chicago, I look forward to Wesleyan, I look forward to many more nights.
Oh, this entry doesn't make a half-bale of sense without the knowledge that I now have a job at Barnes and Noble. Which I readily grant to you all.
Peace.
