On Monday, the Academy Awards were presented at the Kodak Theatre in Hollywood, California. It was, unsurprisingly, unsurprising.
Check out the winners. A few random thoughts about the show/telecast/nominees/winners:
- First of all: The "Pregame." Katie and I watched some Red Carpet stuff on E! Ryan Seacrest was the host. I think he's good at that sort of job. A good interviewer. We mocked a few people and what they were wearing...like Kirsten Dunst and Cameron Diaz.
- I think that Cameron Diaz looks like a Jackovasaur and I'm not sure how or why some people would find her attractive.
- Martin Scorsese finally won a Best Director Oscar for The Departed (2006). Like I mentioned earlier, he's finally won a Super Bowl and can get that huge monkey off of his back. However, does anyone else think he looks like a cross-mojination between Woody Allen and Eugene Levy? I can't imagine that being a good thing.
- Ellen DeGeneres did an okay job as the host. I think they went with someone a little safer this year after last year's host, Jon Stewart, seemed to be constantly be poking fun of Hollywood and the Hollywood culture.
- Jerry Seinfield gave out some award but it seemed as if he were auditioning for the role of host for next year's broadcast. I wouldn't mind seeing him get another chance.
- Katie and I filled out ballots before the ceremony. Her ballot stomped mine all over the place. Pan's Labyrinth (2006) was her killer choice in a lot of the technical categories. She also picked The Departed while I chose Little Miss Sunshine as Best Picture. Congrats for beating me...*grumble*
- The Academy, by nominating him for a Best Actor in a Supporting Role Oscar, validated my belief that Marky Mark is the greatest performer of our generation. Heh.
- Chris Connelly sucks. He was so annoying. He kept mentioning that the Oscars that had been given out were big huge surprises. The biggest shocker was that Pan's Labyrinth didn't win Best Foreign Film. Other than that....what else was that surprising Chris? Scorsese's win? Hudson's win? Whitaker's win?
- An Inconvenient Truth (2006) won for Best Documentary Feature Length (big fucking surprise, eh, Chris?!). Of course that film's biggest backer is Vice President Al Gore. He was present at the Oscar ceremony but the thing that really bothered me the most about him is how very few people actually referred or called him "Vice President" Gore. In fact, George Clooney and The Movie Voice Guy were the only people to refer to him as Vice President Al Gore. As many of you know, I'm not the biggest Al Gore fan in the world and generally disagree with a lot of things (and don't get me started with Tipper! Grrr!) he has to say, however, I think the office deserves, deems, and demands a little reverence...even from the Hollywood Communists. He's Vice President Al Gore. Call him that.
- By the way, for those who haven't seen it, the winning picture, The Departed, is an excellent film. I would recommend you all give that a watch. Besides...it's got Marky Mark in it!
