Wow. I'm just beaming. For about a week and a half Katie had been planning this "special day" for us to spend on Saturday. She would give me clues that were pretty vague. I was dying to know what we were going to do. Well, she had me guessing the entire time yesterday up to the very moment that we pulled into our destination -
the Minnesota History Center. I had never been there before. I still had no idea what was going on at the center until we got closer and she pointed out the flags/signs/pennants announcing what the main exhibit was. It turns out that the traveling exhibition at the center is
Baseball is America. It was incredible! There they have on display tons of relics/souvenirs/photos/jerseys/etc etc that are usually on display at the baseball Hall of Fame in Cooperstown, New York. I was completely surprised since I had no idea that this was even happening. It was really cool to see the stuff in there, including an original Honus Wagner baseball card.
And, to top it off, there was a presenter who gave a lecture titled Pop Ball! that was about baseball in the movies. He talked about the themes that basically arise in all the baseball movies and in American life/morality with examples from clips of these baseball movies.
Baseball...movies...wow! What a woman! It was great seeing all those artifacts and explaining some (not very many though!) of them to Katie. She seemed to have a great time, too. It was a great day and all credit is due unto her.
Thanks, Katie!
