I've started drinking tea. I picked up the habit while I was in the UK. We paid to have breakfast available every place we stayed, so I figured I'd take advantage of it. Somewhere along the way, I had a cup or two of tea, and realized that my palate no longer rejects it like it used to. Sadly, I didn't bring any back, because I didn't realize I'd pick up this affinity until I was in the airport with less than 50p on me. No matter, it's not like tea is not available for purchase in the US.
I'm trying contact lenses. The motivation is purely aesthetic. Yes, they are a little more work than glasses, but I can live with that. (I'm already stuck having to blow-dry and style my hair, anyway (speaking of which I need to figure out what I'm going to do when I need a haircut in a month or so) so a minute or two to put in contacts is not a big deal.) I will probably not wear them every day, as it's much better for a near-sighted person like me to be able to remove my correction while, say, staring at a computer monitor for several hours. But you will probably see me with them most weekends or nights out.
I'm still working on changing my style of dress. That will be a more on-going change. At present I'm working mostly on shirts, I think. Any suggestions on where to find cheap (I mean really cheap, I really don't have that much to allocate) long-sleeve button-up shirts? Also, where does one shop for shoes? Up to now I've only had two kinds: sneakers I get directly from New Balance stores, dress shoes from dress clothing stores. The only other kind of shoe store I've shopped at is Shoe Carnival (a somewhat ridiculous store in Lexington that has a carnival atmosphere, although they do have good sales).
I got a new mouse for my desktop. The old one developed a faulty button sensor, such that every time I clicked, it would usually register two (or more) clicks. You wanted to select this window? Oops, you just maximized it. You wanted to select this file? Oops, you just opened it. You wanted to check this checkbox? Oops, you just checked and then unchecked it. The new mouse is nice, although I find the two-directional scroll wheel slightly frustrating, as trying to use it to middle click often ends up in me triggering the side function. (You wanted to open this link in a new tab? Oops, you flipped to a different tab and clicked on a different link.)
I don't have a job yet for the summer. I thought when I returned from the UK there would be one lined up, but apparently negotiations stalled. I'm going to talk to my advisor about doing research, and if it's too late to start that then I'll pester people to keep talking to these useless industry folks. But before long I may have to start looking towards Rent A Coder.
