Independent movies

While I have been not feeling well for the past few days I took a break from being sick (Not really) and I went out to see a movie. This movie was Tears of the Black Tiger.

It was a Thai movie. I saw it with my old college roommate. The movie was a western in style which made it hilarious. Mind you the movie was intended to be a romantic comedy with a ton of action. Which it pulled off amazingly well.

The movie was extremely colorful and some of the shorts were just beautiful. The whole thing looked almost as though it was shot in technocolor. You know the way they use to film stuff in the 50s when color first started hitting the scene. Everything was so bright.

The film used a mixutre of old fashion filming mixed with a few new filming techniques. They had liberal usage of conveyor belts it seemed. One scene in particular was a stand off where you see the guy that is closer (back facing the camera) slowly move to the right on some kind of object that is unseen and to complete the effect he actually changes positions once he reached the other side of the screen.

The fight scenes were terrifically done too. The blood was an off red color. They had to use something cheep since there was so much of it used. Yes this movie was very gory. But it was worth it. Not many times do you get to see a rocket get shot into a mans chest sending him flying through a house only to explode when he hits a wall. Utterly fantastic.

The best part is the movie knew it was cheesy. There is one part where the hero does something amazing. But it was hard to see so what does the movie do? It puts a screen that says "Did you see that? Well if you didn't here it is again!" And then it gives you a Point of View mode on the bullet that he fired.

This movie was well worth the trip out and I would highly recommend it to anyone who likes silly but good movies. The only part where the movie drags is the middle-end where they try to develop the love story between the two main characters. The love story was your standard two people seperated by time and class yadda yadda nothing new there.

4 out of 5 generals agree this was a good movie.

The only general that thought it wasn't good thought it could have used more blood.
