A tale of two bowlers who were too good for me!

Despite having back ache, I played cricket twice this weekend, although I'd done all I could to avoid playing on Saturday due to the aforementioned injury.

Anyway ... on Saturday, we played at Langley Manor ... a nice place to play, but that was all that was nice about the day for me. I got a golden duck, no chances for catches and didn't bowl cos of my back.

On Sunday, we played at home against East Meon. We were somehwat short of bowlers I feel as they put on 296 in their innings. When it came to ours, we all knew about their young lad Johnty ... just 16. He's now taller than me and is obviously being fed well as he's grown about a foot and got a lot stronger looking since last year.

He ripped through our batting order with consumate ease, including a hat trick. To me, he seemed to just be bowling short ... which is not really in the spirit of Sunday cricket. I tried to strike back, but all I managed to do was hit it to mid off to be out for another duck. I was pretty pissed off with his attitude ... bowling bouncers and then coming down the pitch to grin at me. Save it for competitive cricket mate! :P

Anyway ... we went on to lose by 191 runs.

He came up to me after the game and apologised ... but I couldn't help but feel that it was a hollow apology, because if he was sorry, he would've done it at the time and not bowled other balls like that to everyone else.

So ... it was quite a sour match for me. I didn't really enjoy the fielding bit, because I was hampered by my back injury and couldn't bowl and then the batting ... well, described that above.

So, now ... I'm home and having some heated pad on my back to ease the aches. Hope it improves over the next two weeks so I can play properly next time. Wedding next weekend, so no available.

Ho hum ... things can only get better eh ?
