It's been really odd this week ... I had to work at home all week, cos of not wanting to drive my car, what with the on-going problems, so I've not really left the flat or come into contact with anyone other than Nance for a week!
I really needed to go to the Post Office though, so I had no other option but to cycle to Gosport. Probably the first time I've been anywhere on a bike for about a year, but it was ok. About a 10 minute ride into town, via cycle lanes for most of the way.
On Friday, we normally go shopping, but again, with a lack of car, all we could do was cycle to Morrissons (urgh) in Gosport. This time, both Nance and I went ... again, no real problems.
We're both feeling it now though ... talk about arse ache!!!! Jeez ... clearly our podgy bums aren't used to small bike seats and bumpy roads!!
Still, not having a car makes everything that much harder ... it's amazing how much you take it for granted really! For instance, I have cricket nets today ... so, how am I going to get me and all my gear to the place where they happen?! Normally I'd drive, but today I'll have to take a bus (sunday service!!), then a ferry and then a 20 minute walk! Joy of joys ...
In better news ... I got my annual performance bonus ... which is a rather nice wedge. It's even nicer that for the first time in my IBM career, I'm not using my annual bonus to clear my overdraft or pay off some big bills! Clearly my budgetting it working. So, this year, the bonus is going into my savings account (although I'll use a bit of it in the short term to pay for my car bill, hopefully I'll get that back when Tesco reimburse me *prays*).
I now have a week off work :D Yay ... Monday, the car will be in the Garage. Tuesday, we're going to London as we've been invited to a gig (Mexicolas/Spider Simpson/The Alamo) via my contacts at Echo etc. The rest of the week may well be spent visiting my folks ... my Mum has just upgraded to broadband, so I need to go and help her set it up. As part of that, we'll need to get her a laptop, as her PC (which was once mine) is so old, it won't cope with it! hehe Not very restful then!
