mehehehe ... I'm just watching "Escape To The Country" on BBC1 (whilst working) and I've got conflicting feelings of anguish and sheer comedy. It appears (I missed the start of the programme) that the family on here are a bunch of nouveaux riche welsh chavs ... clearly with lots of money, but very little conventional taste.
The presenter of the this programme is completely not used to this ... she's chosen a Grade II Listing Building with loads of traditional country fittings, and she's taking them around and going ... "what do you think of this beautiful wooden staircase" and the chavs are going ... "i'd rip that out and put in a metal one with mirrors and chrome!".
The look on the presenters face was brillaint, even if she tried to hide it.
*lol*
They all have very strong welsh accents too, which makes it even funnier! And their outfits are comic too ... two orange women with loads of makeup and huge earrings and died hair etc!
*ROFL*
They're just looking at a garden and have said ... "this is nice, would be good for our son to play cricket, but it'd have to be astroturfed!"
and now they're being shown a dining room ... "ooooh, I'd rip all that out and put mirrors on the ceiling and put in a bar!"
comic genius ... and yet cringeworthy because I know they're not joking. The chavvy wife is the ring leader ... who apparently likes traffic noise, as it sends her to sleep!
deary deary me! who'd have thought this programme would draw such a response?!
