Busy week. Kind of.

1. Deer season was this past weekend. Well, it actually goes on until sunset this coming Sunday but for me it was this past weekend. And as I'm often fortunate enough to do, I wrapped it up in one day. I had no one to sit with the mob on Saturday so I missed the opening day of High Power Season two years in a row. I wasn't that broken up about it either. I went Sunday instead but unlike in years past, I did not take the night before off from the bar. I worked, got home around two, and took about a three hour nap before waking up and heading out to hunt. But I did have a lot of coffee and two bottles of 5 Hour Energy with me. I needed it, too. There's still a lot of corn up in these parts so the deer aren't moving around, they're bedding down in the corn. So it took literally the entire day before I saw anything decent. Long story short, I dropped my deer right at dusk on Sunday.

In a related story, I spent most of today and will probably spend most of tomorrow out at the Chop Shop with my dad getting the deer processed so that I can have lots of yummy summer sausage, polish sausage, and bratwurst to eat for the next year. My hands are pretty crampy from holding a knife all day.

2. Work. Yes, the season was pretty much done on the 6th, but we had a few stragglers that we did early last week. Then Friday I got a call from a customer who didn't do her last app. It was invoiced, so I'm guessing my guy did the wrong yard. Fine, I told her I'd go fix it. I went in to the office yesterday with my goal of doing just that one only to find a message on the machine from a customer complaining that their yard had been streaked from the PREVIOUS application. so that had me mad A)because it was a fuck up that I had to go fix and B)it was a fuck up that should have been reported a month ago so that I didn't have to fix it. But oh well, I got it done.

3. Kids. Yesterday was busy just with the boys having cub scout meetings at the same location but a couple of hours apart. Then Monday we had two people from some local agency come to do an eval on Connor. Conn is wicked smart, sure, but he's never spoken well. Only in the last few months has he really started talking a lot, but when he does he doesn't pronounce consonants that well. He says "Ank you" instead of "Thank you", "Da'y" instead of "Daddy" and so on. My sister, the perpetual social worker, jumped to the conclusion that he has autims and wouldn't drop it at all. Well, he doesn't have autism. The two ladies doing the eval fell in love with him and were amazed at how clever he is (They also said I was an awesome dad, not sayin' just sayin') and think that his speech problems may be related to his sinuses, tonsils, or even the tubes he had put in a year and a half ago. So we're going to have all of that checked out Monday and probably have see a speech pathologist on a regular basis.

Things I haven't done practically at all the past two weeks like I've wanted to:

A. Write. I would have thought that with the season shutting down I could have started on a huge writing stride. Nope. Hasn't happened. I've actually been stuck doing stuff. And on the rare chance I do have some peace and quiet to write in, I have had no inspiration. Blecch. I feel like I'm actually remarkably close to finishing my bar book, I also picked up a copy of The Writer's Market from the library yesterday and am going to start printing off sections of my last detective novel to send via snail mail to literary agents.

B. Exercise. I have this really great idea to hit the elliptical machine at the gym at least twice a week and hit the weights almost daily. Yeah, haven't really done that. I am going to try and get my ass downstairs to either bench or do some shoulder and bicep work this evening.

So that's what's up with me. What's new with you?

exercise, work, deer season, writer's block
