Getting sick with my strange bout of whatever a couple of weeks ago really put a hit on the health kick I've been on. Ever since I quit the bar managing job in February I've been working out pretty regularly. I have a free Y membership through work and I have a weight set at home and I've been really good about exercising. Well, then I got sick for a week and obviously didn't do anything. Then I decided to hang back another week just to be safe and avoid the possibility of some sort of relapse. So now it's time to get back on the horse and I was having a very difficult time getting back into my groove.
I have incentive now.
Amanda's store is doing this wellness compeition for employees and spouses. We're on a team with one of the store managers and his wife. It's a baseball game of sorts where different physical activities equal different hits. for example a 20 minute run equals a home run, weight lifting for 20 minutes is a triple, 20 push ups is a single. Stuff like that.
Amanda of course has been a work out nut for the last couple of years and has dropped all of her baby weight and then some (she says she's the same size or a little smaller as when she graduated high school), so we're thinking we're going to kick this thing's ass. The competition started Monday and i think she's already scored some 16 runs. That's my girl. And I figured that by getting back into my work out groove and just by working (my two jobs aren't exactly sedentary--well, I've made my main job sedentary but I can step up my efforts) I should be able to "hit for the cycle" several days of the week and then some.
What's the reward? I'm not for sure how it works out but I know the big prize pool includes tickets to this year's Nebraska-Colorado game and/or a four pack of tickets to Worlds of Fun.
I'm going to kick this fucking thing's ass. I haven't been to a good Nebraska game since
rebb and I saw the Nebraska-Colorado game in Boulder in 1997. Also my sole trip to Worlds of Fun was as a senior in high school and
rebb was on that trip, too. Bring it on.
In other news, I've been teaching Gabe guitar for just under a year now. It's been kind of come and go because of all of the different activities the kids are in and when I was doing the bar managing job a lot of things at home slid a bit. So I've been trying to get back on that with him. Also, I've had friends mention to me that they'd be interested in me teaching their child to play. Most of the time I just blew it off because I've never been that confident in my own skills as a guitarist so how the hell could I pass any knowledge on to other people besides my own kid? Well, I've decided to hell with it. I'm going to start giving lessons to the general public this fall. I made the decision around noon yesterday and already have four potential students on the list. I don't know for sure when I'll start, I'm waiting to find out when AYSO soccer starts so I can coordinate around practice schedules (because I'll probably be coaching at least one of the kids' teams this year). I'm nervous yet excited at the same time. Now I definitely need to spend even more time straightening up my basement office area and moving shit around to make it a nice little music room for my kids and my new students.
*gulp*
