So the holiday has come and gone, although we have Christmas with Amanda's dad yet, and I'm starting to get relieved. I got a pretty good haul (I think I got too much honestly). I got all kinds of DVDs, one of Robert B Parker's new books, and the big score was an external hard drive. When I bought my laptop earlier this year I didn't get a lot of memory (I was being cheap). I figured that when worse comes to worse I could always get an external hard drive. I wasn't too worried. Well, then I discovered
this website that has cheap music that is totally legal and really started filling up my hard drive. So to get that was a big score. I moved all of the pictures I had stored on to it as well as my music library. Then
Shanty was home for a week for the holiday. He plugged my new hard drive into his MacBook and dumped 20 gigs of music on to it. Yowza. I currently have enough music on there for it to play for 14.2 days continuously without playing the same song twice. I also got an iTunes gift card from the wife so I went ahead and spoiled myself with some movies. Score. I enjoy my iPod and iTunes way too much some days.
For the most part everything ran smoothly. We spent Christmas Eve with Amanda's family in Holdredge and then had Christmas Day with my family in at our house. Th eonly complication was two days before Christmas Eve Amanda suddenly decided she wanted to spend the night in Holdredge. Her thinking was she didn't want to miss out on any time with her family. Fine, I can drive back late. I have no problem with that. Nope. She wanted to stay overnight mostly just to spend time with her sister. We didn't leave her mom's place until close to nine and she realized how tired she and everyone else was. She finally admitted that I was right and to unload sleeping children only to get them ready for bed in a strange location would be nuts and then only to have to load everything and everyone up at the butt crack of dawn to do Christmas in our own home would be a major pain in the ass. So we made it home in excellent time and everyone was happy. I think.
Then Christmas Day came adn went. Had it not been for my father it would have been excellent. He was kind of an ass about the gifts he got and with not be able to drink he was quiet and withdrawn. He also wasn't feeling well. Probably going through some of the DTs.
He and my mother were in the bar last night when I came in for work. He had a beer in his hands and was happier than I'd seen him all Christmas day. Lovely.
