So for the past two days I spent the night at Joe Spenny's house because their dog had just recently had an operation and Joe needed help looking after him at night. Today, I found out that Red (Pat's cat) was sick and that Mom brought him into the vet.
That morning mom woke up at 7:30 and found him sprawled out on the floor. She thought he was dead, but then he blinked at her, and started 'crying'. SHe took him to the Vet, and apparently his system backed up into his kidneys and his system was in the final stages of shutting down. THere were 3 options.
1.) $500 - a few nights on IV
2.) $5000 - surgery
3.) the shot.
WHen Mom told me about it, she made it seem like he was still alive and at Dr. Chang's for observation. At least it sounded like that until she said:
"I gotta call Pat. Dr. Chang wants to know if he wants Red to be buried at home or not."
Then slowly, over the course of an hour, we went through denial, to silence, to bawling and hugging. After that, I spent a good hour and a half in my room crying until my eyes dried out. Then I tried to read a funny book to make me laugh, then I went on the internet to look at funny things, then Amy tried to make me feel better, but just by being around people made me cry some more.
I had to explain to my little brother what had happened, then I went into how we took Mercedes (the first cat I remember owning) to be put to sleep because he was throwing up blood, and how I FOUND my cat Matilda dead on my parent's bed. At least SHE died of old age...
I gotta tell you all, I haven't cried this much in a long time. I just wished I could have broken the drought at a wedding or something.
