Doctor Who

Can someone recommend the absolute best episodes, perhaps one or two? I just finished watching the first one, 'Rose', and, well, I thought it was stupid. I don't want to judge an entire show based on one episode, though, so this is why I'm asking for the best. Is this episode even considered good to fans or is this akin to judging all of Star Trek ( Read more... )

Coming into this discussion way late... but what the hell.. if it's mostly slash you are after in Doctor Who, the two big ones are definitely Doctor/Master (see the infamous phone sex scene from S3 "Sound of Drums") and the Doctor/Jack ( the Doctor doth protest too much?). Mostly between 10/Master and 10/Jack (though other Doctors as well).

All the Doctor/Master stuff is at the end of S3 (last three episodes) and the last two episodes with the 10th Doctor (these were in between S4 and S5).

Russell Davies, the head writer for S1-S4 is gay himself, so he didn't have any problems putting in characters like Jack with his flexible sexuality.

The thing to remember about Doctor Who is that it's still considered to be a kid's show first in the UK (not so much here, where fans are more likely to be adults), so that might account for some of the camp and slapstick. But it's amazing all the subtext they manage to slip in regardless.

In the 5th Season 11th Doctor/Rory is also not to be ignored (Rory is just so sweet; though 11/Rory/Amy is also pretty popular).

Otherwise, I pretty much agree with the consensus here. I loved Donna; lots of good stuff in S4, where she is the companion. Donna's not remotely interested in being the Doctor's love interest (which is a refreshing change from Rose and Martha), but rather being his friend, and it's great (it's exactly what he needs). And S1's "The Empty Child"/"The Doctor Dances" (which introduces Jack Harkness) are not to be missed, they're just excellent (Steven Moffat's the man).
