If you are a member of ohnotheydidnt, please reconsider your membership.

ONTD has gotten so huge that LJ took on a staffer to deal with the community. That would be brenden, ONTD editor.

He is known for being a jerk in general, but in a recent news post, he crossed a line. Full stop.

He was the first user to comment on the news post, with a .gif to support the content of the post. He then logged out, and proceeded to log into a sock puppet account, from which he harassed, verbally abused, and straight-up trolled LiveJournal users who did not support the content of the post. Evidence (copies of e-mail notifications) from one user has been posted here.

As an LJ staff member who was caught actively trolling LJ users, brenden has received no consequences, and other LJ staff have failed entirely to comment on the incident, and the sock puppet's comments have been deleted from the news post. This despite clamorings from many users (myself included) for some sort of repercussions.

Indeed, if anything, brenden was rewarded: the sock puppet's account was given a vgift for a good comment on a news post, which had very suspicious timing. In addition, the mobile version of LJ has gotten a facelift very similar to the one given to the LiveJournal homepage recently and which we all protested, heavily featuring communities, particularly ONTD.

If you are a member of ONTD, even if you just lurk and never comment, this is the system you are condoning. This is the system you are supporting.

***personal note***

I'm not a member, but I think this is a serious issue not only for members of ohnotheydidnt but for all of lj. Read the evidence and the transcript linked above. What disturbed me was a comment in the entry that reported the following:

"Sadly, it's not the only evidence we've had today that LJ staffers don't give a shit about the userbase and actively troll them. There's the case of another LJ staffer,
dnewhall, using his staff admin powers to leave a creepy comment on a locked post (difficult, but possible as he had database access at the time) back in May. He tried to claim that the post was public at the time (it wasn't), it was then looked at by further LJ staffers, who changed the privacy of that post to Public and changed tag settings so tags could be added and then claimed the post had been public all along."

Whoa. That is some huge shit. See, this is an LJ staff member in charge of a very large and influential community being an asshat troll and not only getting away with it, but being rewarded for douchebaggery. With this and the Facebook/Twitter shit, dreamwidth is looking good, and I have NEVER thought on this, even after strikethrough. I've got a paid account on lj, so I know I'll stick around to then, but after that...I don't know. Maybe a third thing will happen that will push me over the edge. Two strikes, LJ.

BTW, even though I do have a dreamwidth account, I have little clue about it. What is the icon system like? I know you get 6 free and I haven't considered any other account if they have them because I never use it, but how many do you get for a regular paid account? I know I can cross-post to LJ and use my dreamwidth account to comment to people so that I don't have to completely leave LJ, but what about their tagging system? Can I import all my past LJ entries to dreamwidth and keep the same customized theme? I know there are dreamwidth-specific communities, but can I watch my LJ flist and community list on dreamwidth or will I have to check both dreamwidth AND LJ for updates? It just seems like a big bother rather than a good solution, so prove me wrong if I've got it backwards. :)

dreamwidth, halp, epic fail, wtf, faggotry, wank
