I am only slightly ashamed to say that my rabid obsession with K/S has brought me here to worship greatly appreciate your fannish Trek posts. Basically, you're amazing. Friends plz?
It is my ambition to be an English major. I wanna teach, but I'm sorta afraid all my lessons will end up having some titles like, "Classical Literature in the FUTURE" and "Kirk and Spock: JUST FRIENDS?", lol.
I'm certified to teach (though I've only gone through student teaching and am stuck with no open positions anywhere) and I can tell you that you can totally sneak in the fun stuff. I wasn't a trekkie then, but I did talk to a few students about Supernatural, and I always asked uncomfortable questions like "so, Shakespeare's sonnets, is your gaydar pinging?" :P I especially had fun teaching about the Greek culture and amazing them with their openly homoerotic culture. Students love shit like that, lol.
Oh, man, I can't wait. I just learned that thing about Shakespeare's totally homo poetry the other day in class. I'd heard vaguely about it, but then, when you think about it, "Shall I compare thee to a summer's day"...WHEW. xD That little factoid basically changed my life. I wanna be one of those teachers that everyone loves and everyone actually learns from, too.
