When you enter adolescence there are certain (non-physical) key things that happen to you.
1) You start to develop a sense of self. You realize that you aren't just carbon copies of your parents, but someone that has their own thoughts and opinions.
2) You start to think about your place in the world.
3) You start to get into, what you think, is really "cool" music.
Music played a big part in my adolescent years, as I'm sure it does with everyone at that age. But when something like, say, They Might Be Giant's Birdhouse in Your Soul comes on I am on a train in Japan speeding down the tracks. If it's The Hippos, it's most undoubtedly a moment that I shared with my girlfriend in high school.
I guess what I'm trying to convey is that, music helps us remember things that happened in our lives. Music helps us cope with the bad things that come our way, it accentuates the amazing times we have with friends, family or that significant other. The albums that helped me get through those challenging times of being a teen are as follows:
The Beatles - Abbey Road
The Aquabats - Fury of...
The Postal Service - Give Up
No Doubt - Tragic Kingdom
Pink Floyd - Dark Side of the Moon
What are the Albums that helped you get through Adolescence? Those albums that were a catharsis to you when you needed comfort the most. The ones that you turned to in your time of need to not be alone.
Weird post, I know. I shall hopefully be posting more.
