ugh... someone applied to rent out the apartment i wanted up in fullerton!!! the place was perfect... 1br/1ba, less than a mile away from school, all utilities paid, fridge and full range, on-site laundry, parking space... all for $895 a month! :-P BOO. i should've just gone up last week. ugh... what am i gonna do... all the other places i've looked up are about the same price but they don't include a fridge, utilities are between $80-$120, they're far from school, and most of them are teeny tiny studios... boo... i'm upset. the guy emailed me and said that if it fell through he would let me know... so i'm crossing my fingers, hoping that the person that applied has bad credit or something. :-P
anyhow... onto other things. i went to balboa park today with my sister, niece and brother. we left at about 9 am to drop off my bro in law at work then we headed over to balboa park... we got there at the perfect time cuz there was still so much parking.
we hit up the museum of man, the museum of art and the japanese friendship garden. when i was younger i was freaked out by the museum of man, and for some reason it seemed so much bigger back then... anyhow, it was really hot inside, really boring, and a lot smaller than i had remembered it being. I think the most interesting thing there was the Lemon Grove Mummy, and I'd seen her before. I was glad to leave when we did, cuz more and more people were showing up, and they did not have the a/c going on throughout the place...
the museum of art was my favorite... first off, they had the a/c on and they had an exhibition of Richard Avedon's photography. there were pictures of bob dylan, malcom x, past presidents, a cool naked picture of rudolph nureyev... hehe. then we went to look at the asian art exhibit. after we looked around there we went upstairs to the other galleries... we were barely through the doors of the first gallery upstairs when i got reprimanded for pointing too closely at a 15th century painting... whoops. i know better than to touch works of art but i guess my finger was too close for the curators comfort. and just to make sure i didn't do anything stupid, i kept my hands behind my back the rest of the time we were in that gallery. but at least i wasn't the parent of this one little kid who got his grubby fingers all over an unfinished marble sculpture from the 1700s... they got in trouble. haha.
after the SDMA we went to the tea pavilion to buy drinks and have lunch. we packed stuff to make our own sandwiches, which was good because stuff at the tea pavilion is expensive... (stupid CRG) then after we ate we went into the Japanese Friendship Garden. i started to get a headache but i wanted to see the koi fish. my sister was telling me that last year there was some kind of accident that messed up the filtration system of the koi pond, and all but one koi had died. and these koi had been 15-20 years old. koi are basically the dogs of the gold fish world, they have personalities and everything, so when it happened all the maintenance people were so sad cuz they'd built up relationships with some of the fish... anyhow, the new koi in there are all about a year or two years old and they were all begging for food. the volunteer that was there was saying that he thinks the koi know when free tuesday for the garden rolls around, cuz they hang out closer to the deck waiting for food to get thrown at them by the visitors... haha. we were only at the JFG for 15 mins cuz my head started to pound. i think it was a mixture of the heat and the super sugary frozen cherry lemonade i had with my lunch...
we walked all the way back to where we parked and man, there were so many cars circling around looking for parking. it was nerve-wracking trying to get our car all loaded up cuz my niece started telling us that she had to go potty. my sister was smart and loaded the potty into the car, but when she got my niece on the seat she just sat there and twiddled her fingers (literally). so my sister kept telling her she had to go potty cuz there were so many cars held up cuz there was a lady waiting for our spot... but no, home girl kept twiddling her fingers... and at that point my head was pounding so hard i could barely think straight. finally my sister pulled her off the seat and loaded her into the car and got going. 2 mins into the drive my niece starts saying "mommy... butt, butt..." and my sister was like, "no way little girl, you lost your chance, now you have to hold it." haha, thankfully she held it.
when we got home i helped pull some stuff out of the car and basically went straight upstairs and went to bed. i woke up 2 and half hours later, and thankfully the headache was gone...
i have a feeling i won't be able to sleep tonight since i took such a long nap. and i just looked at the time and apparently it's taken me an hour to finish this post. haha. i guess i should end it here... wish me luck for tomorrow. mama needs a place to live. ;-)
