Wax on. Wax off.

So I've been playing around with hair wax the past few days. I'm fighting trimming my beard since it's in the unruly stage in which it is quite hard to keep it civilized (for work). This is the phase I usually give up in, although it has been just a bit longer than it is now. Someone I follow on Flickr has been doing a handlebar 'stache so I got to thinking I could probably use wax to control my beard. I'm not twisting and curling it but I figured it was worth a shot. It's not, bad. I started with straight beeswax (because it was cheap) but it's quite thick and hard to work with. I asked my barber that I have clean up my beard now and then what wax he recommends and he said anything that is 1/2 beeswax and 1/2 pomade. I picked up American Crew's Fiber. Even that stuff is pretty thick and difficult to work with. I often find hairs stuck to my hand that got ripped out :( It's not really that many though, although I"m sure plenty of pulled ones stay behind in the beard.

The outcome is pretty satisfying. I like to flare it out to the sides and it doesn't stay up quite as high as I'd like but overall it's not bad. My sideburns and down a bit more is much shorter than the rest of my beard since I was growing that out before I decided to let the full beard go. I rub the wax on both sides of the corner of my mouth and get a bit in the 'stache too. Then, I just take the come and come it out. Most of it stays in that area but a little bit naturally gets pulled out in to the rest of the beard. The corners of the 'stache have a slight upwards curl as they fan out to the side when I do this... I like it. Tonight though, before getting in the shower, I decided to take the comb from underneath and come out the entire beard to both sides. With the fax it gave the beard a very full look and it keeps the strays that would stick out down to a minimum. It also blended well between the longer and shorter parts. I may have to do it this way now... but still be able to flare out the corners so they have that bit of curl.

I shall continue to have some fun with this...
