Wow, where do I begin? It's been forever since I updated...
Last weekend I made plans with my friend Katie for the Jimmy Eat World show, so I'll tell you all about that. Friday night I went to her house and hung out with 2 of her friends. It was your basic hangout, watched TV, threw down a couple beers (I swear, only 2 this time!) and went to some sketch gas station for some midnight pizza. I didn't end up falling asleep until like 5am because my sleep schedule was so screwed up, I need to stop sleeping so much after class on Fridays.
On Saturday Katie & I woke up around 10, took care of some stuff and got to my house around 1 from hers in Canton (slow morning, I know). We only got lost twice on the drive down, not enough to make us late for the show, but enough to make it a true road trip. We got to my cousin's house in Wakefield Mass and got on the commuter rail right in time to get into Boston.
We went from the commuter rail to the orange line, then to the green line, and got off on the Kenmore stop, and there we were: Boston Massachusetts. I got a call from my friend Nic who was in line at the Jimmy show, and was wondering where I was. She & I arrived to the Avalon right as the doors were opening and people were heading in.
We sat down for the whole show in the balcony, which was cool. Jimmy Eat World are kinda chill in a lot of their live set, and I didn't want to be around a bunch of idiotic middle schoolers trying to mosh during their ballads and only sing along to "the middle" and "sweetness." I liked the bar upstairs, the people up there were pretty funny too.
Recover played first- so tight, really good. I must have become one of their newest fans at the show. Your basic pop-punk/rock/emo-ish sound, with a flair of classic rock guitar parts thrown in for good measure. Given that the band was from Austin Texas, I wasn't all that surprised. Razorlight played 2nd, and I wasn't extremely impressed. They tried to jam out on a bunch of songs, but neither of their guitar players could do anything too impressive. They weren't bad, but I thought their songs were too long for the kind of stuff they were playing.
Jimmy Eat World came out and rocked the hurricane. From the new album (Futures) they played Kill, World you Love, Pain, Polaris and Nothing Wrong. From Bleed American they played Bleed American, A Praise Chorus, The Middle, Sweetness, If You Don't Don't and Get It Faster. From Clarity they did Lucky Denver Mint, Your New Aesthetic, For Me This is Heaven (best song of the night, hands down) and Blister. From Static Prevails they did Thinking That's All and 17 (for the first time ever!). They even played What Would I Say to You Now, an old B-side. Overall it was a quality 80 minute set, and I like band more and more every time I see them.
After the show I ate at Burrito Max, which is right across the Kenmore entrance in Boston, amazing burrito joint. I got back to my cousin's house around 1am and went to bed around 2. I actually slept until 1pm before driving home the next day with Katie, then dropped her off at her house, and got back to Farmington around 6 or 7. It was a fun weekend, Katie & I had a blast (I did anyway, and I'm pretty sure she did:))
Last week was your usual week. Classes were ok, but I'm just about ready for a break. That's what Thanksgiving is for I guess.
This past weekend I saw Dark Side of Oz at Nordica Auditorium up here, which is when they play the Pink Floyd CD Dark Side of the Moon while showing the movie Wizard of Oz. There are some similarities that make people wonder if Dark Side was written while watching the movie. It started off alright, then took a horrible turn at the end when they played another Pink Floyd CD, instead of restarting Dark Side like you're supposed to. Oh well, after that I just went out to a keg party on Middle St, which was fun. Lots of people there, cheap beer- it doesn't take much to satisfy me.
On Saturday we finished up tracking on the Game Theory CD, it sounds pretty cool if you ask me. Tracking vocals is always my favorite part of the CD, especially harmony parts. Don't ask why, I honestly couldn't tell you.
Saturday night I went to a little chill get together with my friends Jeff & Justin, and met up with 2 girls who live downstairs and a few of their friends. It was very fun, I won't mention names, but 2 of them got so beligerently drunk and started talking about things they didn't remember the next morning. It was classic.
This week I have 2 exams, and next week I have 2 20 page papers due. I should probably get to work now. I'll write next week to tell you how the show goes on Friday at Johnson Hall, which you should all go to. Contact me if you need more info. Peace out girl scouts.
