Another week of slavery...er work experience has gone by. I really am learning a lot lot from these guys, I think college taught me how to orchestrate all the technical aspects of broadcast journalism but these two have really taught me how to dig up stories, find out more about them, and thoroughly research them. Even if all I get out of these guys is more work ex…slavery, it will definitely have been worth it. Provided I can letters of recommendation as well, of course.
The big boss is in town, Peter. Unfortunately, due to his presence around the office and the fact that we had to have a 3.5 hour lunch so that the peeps could lobby for things that they wanted I unfortunately got very little done. But I did end up with a very nice meal which I didn't have to pay for. So I think it evens up. However, upon hearing them talk about the show, I realize just how tight their budget is. It seemed to me, after hearing them speak, that there really is no chance of this particular gig becoming a paying one. I shall confirm this after Peter leaves this week, but if this is the case then I need to a) start looking for a job that will sponsor me here or b) leave the country in August. At any rate, I think I should stay here through my visa date so that I can continue to improve in Arabic, that is important. Anyway, I definitely have some thinking to do.
I had a pretty good weekend though. On Thursday night me and Nanna went out to get some coffee at the Madinat Jumeirah. Some other peeps were supposed to join us, but thinks came up which prevented them from doing so. We BS'd for several hours and then I was supposed to hook up with the Emirati guys afterward but got lazy and failed to do so.
I'm thinking about buying tickets to see a DJ that is coming to Dubai called Paul Van Dyke. Tickets cost 30 bucks for regular, and 45 for VIP. He's playing on March 17th so I guess I'd better act fast if I want to go.
Went to catch some tennis on Saturday with my mom. It was really enjoyable, the final was played between Lindsay Davenport and Jelena somethingovic. Jelena was 19 or 20 and wow. It was a really well played match, and the crowd really got into it. Jelena was from Serbia Montenegro and would have known it but there are a lot of Montenegroesses in Dubai. And they're a rowdy bunch, I tell you what. Poor Lindsay started out the match wearing a pink outfit and the whole contingent started humming the theme to the pink panther. Then, she changed between sets into a yellow outfit. So they promptly started singing "We all live in a yellow submarine". When you have several hundred doing so...:S. I felt embarrassed for Lindsday, but was secretly laughing. Outloud. Lindsay won in three sets, but it was an excellent match and I guarantee you'll be seeing plenty more of Jelena Jankovic.
That is all for now kiddies. Im wondering whether I should do short updates through the week or stick to the one long? Or a mixture of both? What thinketh you?
Peace
