Bragging time

I might try to write an adaptation every semester..i wrote one last semester for Yuki and now i'm writing one for Larry...both having to do with Chinese folktales..and both of which may have a chance to be staged at professional theatres...

I gave my monkey king adaptation, much to the persuasion of Nick, to one of the co-artistic directors, Jubilith Moore, at Theatre of Yugen in the city. They are a tiny little theatre company that specializes in Noh plays (Japanese theatre). There is a possibility that the play could be workshopped there, which is incredibly exciting. i have a meeting with Jubilith and a man who is part of the "Noh Mafia" (I kid you not about the name) who is going to be in town this weekend about the play..oh boy. I'm also supposed to baby sit that afternoon..so, i think i need to talk to Trina about that.

The other one, for Larry, isn't done..it's an adaptation of A Christmas Carol, set in 1920's Canton City. The characters have Chinese names (thanks to mom), and there are some cultural references in it as well. I just wrote a scene of it for an exercise that we had due today, but he said that i could finish it for my final project. Now, here's the thing with Larry...he doesn't really give praise all that often, much less to me. So, I read my scene in class today, and he said "finish it, send it off to East West Players," which is HUGE. East West Players is a theatre that's based in LA and was started by Mako, and is one of the only Asian American theatres in California. I guess i did good =).

Things were just falling in place for me this week professionally. After my meeting with Jubilith, i realized that I also need to be better about promoting/marketing myself to other professionals. I need to start thinking about getting my name out there and start accumulating some jobs.
