Back from my conference now, having failed to win any of the amazing prizes up for grabs in the gala dinner bingo (including Bose stereo, several i-pod touches, about 6 Nintendo Wiis, Aston Martin experience day etc etc) - makes note to get to more of these events. Still, personal haul included 2 cuddly lions for the children, 2 stress buster ( Read more... )

Had pretty good time actually, especially as found kind man in the casino after dinner prepared to give me chips as fast as I lost them at blackjack. No real money involved I should add, only pretend. Getting too old to cope with hangovers, quite proud of self control with all the free alcohol - starting off with cocktails at 5.

Good entertainment is a real bonus, as it does break the ice. Apparently the entertainment at last year's conference was terrible (Rob Brydon as after dinner speaker, died on his feet). We got the 3 waiters, and another good comedian afterwards, then bingo, then casino. Brill.

Final parcel was folding 4 way usb hub - quite neat but not sure when I'll use it. Friend has a more practical one which doubles as a mug warmer. Quite depressing that the world's resources are being used in this way, but I'll try not to think about that as the sun is shining.

According to the futurologist addressing us during the conference, soon we will all present ourselves only as avatars to the outside world, and keep the sum total of our existence in microscopic memory sticks. As he was addressing a room full of managers and business analysts there was a definite sound of creaking brains as we tried to realign our imaginations. I did quite like the idea that with DNA computers on the horizon, within the next 20 years or so we could be actually growing managers as bacterial cultures rather than having live human ones. This could be new direction for the brewing industry I believe. Some of the other developments are pretty incredible too, good story material.

I'm really touched by the comments from people on LJ - what a nice community it is.

I like the idea of presenting myself through an avatar. I can choose to be anything I want. LJ is a step towards it. If I ever create any sock puppets, it'll be even nearer...

Should send this one to Scott Adams.

Only if the government doesn't dcide to slap duty on. Few enough people want managers anyway. Tax them for it, no one would buy, and we'd all be much happier - except for the brewers, but as they are used to being miserable it won't make much difference. They could always use the technology to make disposable national football managers. Oh - they already do that, don't they?

If you like I can get the children to make you a sock puppet and then we'll photograph it.

That's not what's meant by a sock puppet in this context.

I was being ironic my dear (have you had coffee yet this morning?), but I thought taking it literally could give interesting possibilities for LJ persona.

I have had coffee, but clearly not enough.

I already have a split LJ personality (you've met Tricky Dicky?); one more would be confusing. Oh, hang on - Dicky says there's room for plenty more in here, and can we get some beer and vids of the original series of Star Trek in as well, please?

If you want to make a sock puppet and photograph it, I could add it to my icons. A Snape sock puppet? Could be a series...
