Fire and THINK

Feb 20, 2006 11:42

Last night I went to bed super early (read: 10:30) because I had to be up this morning at 6 for my clinical. I wake up this morning and I have a message on AIM from Brandon about how OUR BUILDING WAS ON FIRE last night and they were evacuating. Someone's dryer caught fire and was smoking and then they brought it out into the windy hallway and it flamed up really fast. All the while, I'm asleep in my bed downstairs. Dena was at Matt's and Ashley and Stephanie have already moved out, so there wasn't anyone there to wake me up. I could've died! So I called the office this morning and they said it wasn't THAT bad of a fire and that if it would've been really bad, the alarm would've gone off, and the courtesy managers would've made sure everyone was evacuated. So that made me feel better. But still, what a fright.

Now a story for all you Camp McDowell peeps (And maybe the rest of you will find it interesting, too):
I just started my new clinical at Hillcrest Middle this morning. I was sitting in her classroom, looking at all the math stuff on her walls, and all of a sudden I saw a poster that said THINK on the front of her desk. The weird/awesome part was that it was upside down. (For those of you lost as to what this means/why it is cool, there is a block on top of the dining hall window at Camp McDowell that is upside down and says THINK.)

So naturally I'm like HOLY CRAP! and I have to ask her. So I said "This may seem like a weird question, but have you ever been to Camp McDowell?" And it turns out she worked there when I was in like 6th and 7th grade! How awesome/weird is that? (Such a small world we live in..) She's got the whole Camp McD, sporty-yet-cute thing going on and she's super exciting, just like (almost) all Camp McD counselors are. So at least if I have to be there at 7:50 in the morning, I won't be entirely dreading it. (P.S. Her name is Meg Rankin. Do any of you remember her?)
