A pinch of happiness in the soup bowl of anxiety

It's been a very good weekend so far. I'm happy I've got another day to rest and relax before I head back into the fray at work.

Yesterday I went with my friend Kim to Flavor Fest at the Mt. Hope Vineyard- the same place where they have the PA Renaissance Festival (which I have never gone to, may have to change that this year). Basically it's a huge wine-tasting extravaganza, and I probably tried about 30 different wines throughout the day. We got there and immediately started diving in at about 11:30. By midafternoon, though, I was pretty well hitting the end of my energy reserves. I can also only drink so much in a given afternoon when I'm overheated and my knees are giving out (I'm fat, what do you want?). We did meet up with Kim's friends from work and walked around with them for a bit. But finally Kim and I had both hit our limits for the day, and we headed home around 4 PM. I got home happy, but thirsty, sweaty, slightly sun-burned, and dead on my feet. I didn't buy any wines, mostly because $13+ a bottle is a bit steep for something I don't drink often, but I do want to delve into some more wine-tasting.

Speaking of local adventures, I made the decision that since we're not really taking a vacation this summer, I'd like to do some day trips to different places in Pennsylvania that I have never seen. I've never been on a factory tour around here, or been to a lot of the historical sites. I might buy a PA Heritage membership if I can swing the money, and that will give me free admission to all the PA Heritage sites. If I go to even three places this summer, it will have paid for itself.

I'm attempting to save up some money to buy myself a nice Geocaching GPS, but it might be a little while. I'd also like to go up to Swatara State Park and do some fossil hunting!

But I haven't even gotten to the best part yet :)

I'm going to be working with horses again soon! I put up an ad on Craigslist that basically said "I can't afford a horse or ride one right now, but if you don't mind someone coming out and petting/walking/giving treats to an old broken-down horse that just needs some love, I can do that", and I was astounded by the responses I got. SIX people responded. So now I have to figure out what the best situation would be and where things will work out the best. Also, a lady that my music teacher knows wants me to come see her newest horse, and he sounds like a dream.

So we will see where things lead! Hopefully to good places, and I'll at least have a lot of cheap or free things to keep me busy this summer.
