So far, Merekesh has been a mixed bag. Broken down into the pros and cons:
PROS
- There is a lot more open space here than in most of the medina's we've seen.
- the Saadian tombs were very pretty
- El Badi, while no longer very pretty is still very cool
- our hotel is cheap, and has a cafe on the roof.
- we have a *cafe* on the freaking *roof*
- food here is pretty good, and in the right spots, also cheap
CONS
- good internet places are hard to find
- The banks refuse to do their freaking jobs. We had to go to a *hotel* to get our travellers cheques cashed. Way to go, Moroccan banks. You are made of pure fail, and I hate you.
- There are more touts here than most places. They are thankfully nowhere near as obnoxious as the ones in Fes, which is why I am still sane, but there's still a freaking lot of them.
- there are a rediculous number of idiots who insist on driving mopeds through areas that are already crammed full of pedestrians. I have almost been hit twice now, and I grow increasingly tempted to clothesline them when they drive by.
I have also been feeling a little under the weather the last day and a half. This has been making it tough for me to enjoy it here as much as I otherwise might, but tomorrow I will hopefully be feeling better, plus its a museum day tomorrow, which I always enjoy.
