A Love Story
Actor Kamenashi Kazuya and singer Akanishi Jin are dating.
As you read the headline in the newspaper you think this is all you ever wished for.
But you know it's fake.
You keep on walking without buying the paper. You have to think of a good story everyone will believe.

“We have to talk about what to tell the reporters,” you inform him and he nods.
“Let's begin with our first meeting.”
It was your best friend's birthday party and a lot of celebrities were invited. Including him.
You drank too much alcohol - about 6 bottles of beer and a few glasses champagne - so you went outside to get a clear head before going home. Pi, your best friend, worried about you and followed.
Later you wished he never did.
After a few breaths of fresh air your head felt lighter and just then you noticed someone standing on a bench near you, his arms stretched out as if he wanted to touch the sky.
You thought that person must have been drunk as well. And that he looked pretty under the dim moonlight.
“Hey Jin, what are you doing outside?”
The voice of your best friend startled that person and he lost his balance.
You rushed to his side to catch him but your friend was faster.
The person landed on top of your best friend.
“We met at Pi's birthday party. You were pretty drunk that night.”
“I guess we don't have to lie about that part, right?”
He jumps on a wet bench and stretches his hands towards the sky.
You look at him and think even now he looks pretty under the glimmering light of the street lamp.
“It just felt like yesterday though I only remember half of what happened that night,” he said smiling.
You wish that you also would be able to forget about that day.
It was the day you fell in love. With him.
From the corner of your eye you see the slippery surface of the bench and when he almost falls you rush there to catch him. This time you are fast enough.
And when you look into his eyes you think maybe you don't want to forget about that day after all.
“That day I caught you when you almost fell,” you suggest. And somehow you can't deny the fact that you wish it was like that.
He looks back into your eyes but only smiles and leaves the embrace you were holding him into.
“What about our first date?”
“Do you want to go to the zoo?” you asked him out.
“Sure, sounds nice.”
You were happy that he agreed to accompany you even though it couldn't be counted as a date. You were happy to be able to spend time with him anyway.
So you waited. Hours. But he didn't come.
Still you waited.
Until your phone rang.
“Jin? Sorry, I couldn't come. Something urgent came up and I couldn't leave.”
“Is that so? Well you can't do anything about it. It's alright.”
“I'm really sorry.”
You went home that day and called Pi.
“You had a date with him? Sorry I didn't know! I met him on my way to the studio and my car had a problem and he helped me with it. Hey man, I'm really sorry. I didn't know.”
“It's alright.”
But it wasn't.
“Do you want to go to the zoo tomorrow?” he asked you that night when he called again to apologize.
“No, I don't have time tomorrow. I'm really tired so I will go to bed.”
You spent the next day at home. Alone.
“Our first date was at the zoo,” you said.
You look at him walking next to you. He is smiling.
“You really like zoos don't you?”
“Yeah. And because I know you don't like roller-coasters.” He laughs and the sound warms your cold heart.
You arrive at a little playground and he immediately jumps on the swing.
You can only smile at his childish behavior but nevertheless you push him on the swing.
“It would have been fun at the zoo,” he says while smiling brightly.
You think he shines even brighter than the stars at the sky.
“Yeah, we would have gone watching the lions. And hippos. And turtles.”
He laughs and you laugh with him for the first time that night. You wish you could always hear him laughing for the rest of your life.
“I'm sorry that I didn't come that day.”
You stop pushing him on the swing.
“But of course for the reporters I will tell them our first date was awesome.”
You look on the ground and remind yourself that this is only for publicity. A product of your own fantasy.
Fake.
“Of course it was awesome because you were with me,” you joke and he laughs.
You go around the swing to stand in front of him and bend down to look into his eyes. He looks back at you with those innocent eyes and a questioning look.
“What about our first kiss?”
Through the faint illumination of the street lamp you see his face blushing and he looks away.
You think you'll fall all over again for him.
“We haven't kissed yet?” he suggests.
“They won't believe us.”
You look at his still blushing face and think you can't help it.
“Look at me.”
He slowly turns his head to look into your eyes again. You smile.
You put your index finger and middle finger together on your lips and kiss them lightly before slowly touching his lips with them.
He looks surprised at your action but doesn't turn away.
“Our first kiss was today. Here at the playground. On the swing.”
He only nods and you see his face flushes again.
“Come.”
You take his hand and pull him off the swing towards your car.
“Let's talk about my confession.”
“Hey Jin, what are you doing here?”
You turned around and saw Kame standing behind you. You quickly hid what you had in your hands behind your back.
“Kame! I didn't expect to see you here.”
“Well me neither. What are you doing?”
“Nothing!”
“It doesn't really look like nothing. Are you buying something?”
“... Yeah. I … I'm buying something for ...”
“For a special person?”
Your eyes widened.
“Well it was just a guess but I guess I got it right.”
“... Yeah.”
“Well then you definitely have to introduce that person to me one day.”
You drive to an empty warehouse and park your car in front of the big, closed entrance door.
You get out of the car but leave the headlights on and he follows you.
You stand in front of your car and through the headlights your big shadows reflect on the closed warehouse door.
“And you come in with the wine and the present when I call.”
You looked around the room and thought it was perfect. You only had to wait for him to come.
You called just to make sure he was on his way.
“I'm still in the office but I'm on my way to the car now. I'll be there in a few minutes. Is he already there?”
“No, not yet.”
“I can't wait to meet that special person of yours.”
You stood in front of the big mirror you especially placed there and looked at your own reflection.
“If you stand here today you will see the person I love.”
“When I confessed to you I invited you to a restaurant you loved. I placed you in front of a mirror and told you 'This is the person I love'.”
He waves with his arm and laughs happily when his shadow does the same.
“And I answered 'I love you too',” he said quietly
“Kame? Where are you? Didn't you say you'd be here in a few minutes?”
“Jin …”
“Kame? Are you alright? What happened?”
“I don't know. I can't think right anymore.”
“Kame? Don't move! Tell me where you are and I'm coming.”
He smiles brightly while looking at your big shadows. You can't see him but you know he's happy because you always know how he feels.
“I can't see your face. Tell me what you are thinking of right now,” he tells you.
“I think you are happy.”
He doesn't answer you.
“What about Pi? Are you still feeling down because of him?” you ask.
“No, he knows about my feelings for him now so it's okay. He doesn't return them. But I can't really do anything about that, can I?”
“I see. At least I won't see you cry because of him anymore, will I?”
“Kame!”
You burst into the studio and saw Kame sitting in a corner crying.
“What are you doing here? Why are you crying?”
“I …”
“Tell me! Did you really intend to come? I was waiting and I was worried! So tell me why are you here!”
“I'm sorry. I … something came up and I forgot. I'm sorry. Did he leave?”
“He didn't come.”
“I'm sorry. I promise next time I'll come and support you. I'm sorry that you couldn't tell him your feelings this time.”
“It's too late.”
“I'm sorry.”
“He doesn't return my feelings. He would have come if he did.”
“You don't know! You haven't told him your feelings yet so maybe he does return them. You have to be happy Jin. For me too.”
“What did he do? Did Pi dump you?”
He didn't say anything but cried again.
“How can you tell I'm happy?” he asks.
“I always know when you are happy or sad.”
“But I don't know how you feel. Tell me.”
“Maybe I don't want you to know. Whether I'm happy. Or sad.”
He turns to look at you and you know he probably frowns. You bet your feelings are exactly shown on your face this moment.
You turn around and smile.
“The story has a happy ending so let's go.”
You walk away and know that he's worried about you. You don't need to look at his face to know that. But you can't let him worry about you.
~♥~
You are at the airport. Waiting for him.
“Will you come with me to my hometown? I want to explain everything to my parents before they release the interview,” you asked him.
“Of course. If it weren't for me you wouldn't have to explain this to them.”
You have two hours left yet you're still worried if he will show up. It isn't only his fault that you are in this kind of situation. After all you invited him to dinner. But he was the one to cry in your arms. And it were the two of you who were caught on the photo.
And then you see him.
He waves at you.
“I'm sorry that I'm late!”
“It's alright. We still have time. Do you want a coffee?”
You go to a little cafe together and order two coffees.
“Did you talk with Pi again?” you ask him.
“Yeah.”
There is a long silence. You know when to stop asking.
“How about we both forget about our love and try dating? For real this time,” you suggest.
He looks at you but turns his gaze away again.
“We're both heartbroken because of our love for people who don't return it. Maybe we should let go and … try dating. Try from the beginning.”
“I don't know.”
“I already let go. My feelings aren't returned so I let go. I already moved on.”
He finally looks into your eyes.
You smile.
“If you want to try it, I'll be waiting at the gate for you. Then I'll introduce you to my parents as my boyfriend. My real one.”
You place a little box with a green ribbon around it next to his coffee on the table before leaving.
You finally said it and you feel better now.
~♥~
You wait for him.
And when you see him approaching you with his head ducked and a slight blush on his cheeks and something sparkling brightly in the sunlight around his wrist you think maybe this is all you'll ever need.
And you know it'll be real this time.
