I've long been a champion of that much-maligned pastime known as 'drinking alone'. I ask you: why is it such a shameful thing? Eh? To be perfectly honest, I think it's far more productive and character-building to drink alone than it is to drink in company. Any old simpleton can go out on the razz, pull birds and puke on the streets. If he was to tell his friends/colleagues/whatever that he did this, they wouldn't bat an eyelid. If said simpleton was to admit to drinking alone and listening to music all night, that's when alarm bells would ring.
The thing that I love most about drinking alone? Your eyes become a movie camera. Seriously, everything your gaze falls upon becomes imbued with meaning. Symbols abound. The significance of the insignificant presents itself. You're at once detached from and fully involved in your environment.
Well... maybe YOU aren't. But that's what happens to me, anyway. And it's fucking great. I can't wait to be a full-time drunk and experience this every second of every day. Sobriety is so overrated.
