Yuletide is coming :D

As I'm sure many of us will have noticed (not that I've been refreshing the LJ community obsessively, ohhhh no), yuletide is gearing up again for this year's round of rare-fandom fun. I'm going to be asking for some Bigglesverse fic, and I'm sure other people here will be doing the same. The pre-fandom-nomination brainstorming post went live a few days back, and livii and I had a bit of a discussion about W.E. Johns fandoms. Last year, there were three Johnsiverse fandoms available for request - the Biggles, Worrals, and Gimlet series - each of them with character options for 'Any' and for the main characters (for instance for Biggles, you could ask for / offer Biggles, Algy, Ginger, Bertie, and von Stalhein specifically). I'm going to cut and paste the discussion, as I'm too lazy to paraphrase, ohohoho.
ME: I was wondering whether it might be a good idea to ask the mods to amalgamate the various W.E. Johns series into one category. In my own case, for example, I'd totally love some Bertie + Gimlet fic. Now, I guess one could get that by listing all the Biggles main crew in the character options for the Gimlet series (or vice versa), as they do all appear at one point or another in the the other series; but it seems like a slightly long-winded way of organising it. And it wouldn't allow one to cross over characters who didn't actually appear in the same series, despite the fact that they're clearly in the same Johnsiverse - if one had a burning desire for Frecks to meet von Stalhein, for example. I wonder whether a collected Johnsiverse category would be better? (Though I guess it would have to exclude his sci fi and other oddments - I'm assuming they're not explicitly Bigglesverse? Though...it would be so cool if they were :D Biggles in Spaaaaaace FTW.)
livii: It's a good idea, yes, though would require more careful character picking during offering time - for example, I can write Bertie-fic but I can't write Gimlet-fic, so couldn't do your suggestion. I'm so open to writing more Worrals-meets-Biggles fic though (I really, really have to find the time to finish the fic I'm already halfway through).
I do think the sci-fi stuff is a totally different universe. Maybe the category could be "Biggles and Worrals series - W.E.Johns" or something like that?
ME: *nods* Yes, the increased difficulty of character selection was one that did occur to me. I could (with some degree of trepidation, because there's one day going to be someone out there requesting Maclaren/Mahoney fic) offer 'any' for the Biggles series alone; but since I haven't yet got my hands on any Worrals, I couldn't offer 'any' for an amalgamated Bigglesverse category. If one then specified one was only willing to write the mainest of characters (who I think were the only specific character options last year), I guess that would mean the aforementioned Maclaren/Mahoney 'shipper didn't have a chance of fic. Still, I guess if one listed a wide enough variety of characters (so one might offer various notables from 266 and 666, not just The Big Four + VS) we'd still be able to offer a wide variety of characters from whichever branches of the Bigglesverse one felt happy in, without having to offer 'Any'.
(That got quite convoluted. Sorry. Hope it made sense. My basic thought process is 'ZOMG CROSSOVER POSSIBILITIES!!!', and I'm just trying to work out how such a category might work in practice ^_^)
I wonder whether "W.E. Johns - Biggles universe" might make sense as a title (though it's a somewhat grandiose way of phrasing it...)?
