jason mraz @ aragon ballroom

so this was my cousin's bday present to me. sushi at this place called butterfly on grand, and a ticket to jason mraz.

let me start with the sushi, it was reasonably priced, delicious, and interesting. the place has got an orange motif going on. everything is orange or brown. but i liked it. the bar was full of delicious looking fish filets and had like six guys behind it cranking out rolls like no other. it was incredibly speedy and delicious. i especially enjoyed a roll called "sunrise" and their spicy tuna is the best i've ever had. the green tea was however, some of the worst i've had. and i think it's because they make it in a coffeepot? he was pouring it out of a commercial decaf pot but there were no leaves in there, which led me to believe that they used to maker to make it, however i could be wrong. it was weak and flavorless, but we were seated by the window and it was particularly chilly, and the rice was cold here, so i drank it anyway. for three of us, and about four rolls and three pieces of each sashimi [eel and yellow tail]--the bill came out to $61. so yeah you can do the math and that's like $20 each. glad i didn't have to pay.
so my cousin then missed halsted, so we turned around right infront of charlie's apt. i remembered the giant thrift store thing written on the train tracks above grand, haha.
finally we get to the aragon, about a half hour before doors even open, we had time to look for free parking instead of paying $20 for the valet--ridiculous. we parked, and there was already a huge line because it was general admission, so we went to the starbucks on the corner because it was close to keep warm. we sat there for a half hour and then went back in line just as they were letting people in.
the place is awesome inside, i've never been. it's as if you're outdoors inside. i really liked it. it's very spanish influenced--or so it seems, i could be entirely wrong.
anyway the opening act was some girl from ireland, and i couldn't understand a word she was saying, she played an entirely too long set. it was only 45min but it felt like hours. she also had awkwardly long pale arms and didn't know what to do with them so she kept putting her left arm up to her chest in time to the beat but it looked like she was doing that remarkably offenstive sign for mentally disabled people that as kids we used to do in elementary school. i don't think she was aware of it. so anyway when she's finally done the crew gets onstage to disassemble her crap and get his in place.
and there were two awesome things i noticed about his set. one. instead of plastic waterbottles they set out a ton of sigg bottles around the stage. two. in "live high" he sings "i try to picture the man to always have an open hand
And see him as a giving tree
And see him as matter, matter of fact he’s not a beast
But oh not the devil either
He’s always a good deed doer
Where it’s laughter that we’re making after all
The call of the world is still in order nation wide
In the order of the primates, all our politics are too late
Oh my, the congregation in my mind
Is this assembly singing gratitude, practicing their loving for you"
and when he sang "i try to picture the man" a giant picture of obama popped up on the projection screen behind him. it was perfect.
he sang a bunch of great songs, and was adorable, and covered build me up buttercup :)
it was a great time, and my cousin got us prime seats in the balcony so i didn't have to be in that sea of people on the main floor, so that was awesome too.
oh and he does a bit of talking between his songs, so just before his song "if it kills me" he's like "who came here with someone they like?" and the crowd goes wild. "right. why would you come here with someone you hate? so you came here with someone you like...someone who you like a lot but you've been in this friend zone for a while?" again the crowd goes wild, actually assume after ever sentence that i'm going to type the crowd goes wild because they did. "so you've been in the friend zone, but it's been on the tip of your tounge, and you just want to say it. you just want to say it but you can't. it's on the tip of your tounge. and you can't say it. but you want your tounge to touch their tounge" and then he stuck his tounge out and was wiggling it. it was hilarious because i went with my cousin and her best friend karen, and at first they were like "oo we came here with people we like!" and then it was clear that was not where he was going with this, and then i just started laughing.
oh and the asian couple standing behind us was having some serious drama, i turn around during build me up buttercup to make sure my jacket was still on my chair and i just see the woman bawling and the asian guy standing there stonefaced staring straight ahead. it was bizarre.
anyway, that was my night. i just had to share about the sigg bottles and obama and it turned into this whole review/narrative.
sorry, that's what happens when i don't type in a while.

oh yeah. saw twilight with julie last night, haha...i liked it just fine, but my goodness edward cullen was dripping sexiness off that screen.
for those of you that havn't seen it or read the books and don't want to know or whatever i'm about to write a "spoiler" so yeah don't read. because it's not an r.i.p. sirius moment again, hahaha [for those of you that don't know i totally ruined that sirius died in harry potter, and i probably just did it again. but whatever, if you havn't gotten past the fifth book yet you're a failed individual]. but the scenes that totally ruled in the movie were two. one. where he drives his volvo like a fucking pro to save bella from the creeps in the alley in port angelas. god he was so hot. ok there were a lot of scenes. the other was his cocky hot ass smile as he slings his arm over her shoulder in the parking lot at the school when they're "together" and there were a few more that i'll throw in because i'm remembering them. the "i feel protective of you" part in the restaurant; and the hilarious biology scene where he's like repulsed by her, and where he's sitting with charlie in the kitchen. so hot. i loved emmet and jasper too--they really need bigger parts. jacob actually grew on me in the movie as well. but that volvo scene was awesome. :) sorry. edward cullen is just so hot.
