So what's been up? Well, it's been a while since I've blogged last. Let me try to recap some of the stuff that's been going on. Last Wednesday I went down to Modesto to hang out with
Big Nick and
J-Dig (not
J-Mo) and some of the other guys (like
Champ and
James) at the
Heroclix marquee. We were doin' that 'til about 11 and I had a pretty decent time -- it was fun. Afterwords, Mark drove up and we hung out at
the Denny's across the freeway on Pelandale 'til about 2am. Then I drove home because, well, I had a quiz at 9am. I got home around 3:20am (that's a really short drive when there's NO traffic, like at 2am). Even though I was asleep by 3:30, I still only got a few hours' rest, as I had to be up in time to study for the quiz. The rest of Thursday went pretty well, especially since night class was cancelled so I could go home and nap to catch up on sleep.
Friday was a little more hectic. I got off work at 3:30 so I could be over to the psych department in time to run
Brian through the alcohol lab. Well, I call Ashwini (the other experimenter) and find out that our lab time had been pushed back to 5pm instead of 4pm. So I got over to DMH and met up with Brian. We ended up just hanging out at my apartment and
SMASHing for a little while. I get to the lab a couple minutes before Ashwini to discover jst how little our professor had actually told us what or how to do. I also find out that the reason we were rescheduled from 5pm to 4pm originally was because the research assistant had another participant coming through at 6pm (it takes roughly two hours to run a participant). This left time for Ashwini and I to only run a single participant when we were supposed to run two. So, Brian went home and we just ran Ashwini's person. Come 6pm, the other participant shows up, but she's sick. So we can't use her anyway (if we run her, the effects we'd be measuring could be from the alcohol dose, which is what we want, or it could be totally messed up because she's sick, which we don't want). So great, Brian could have stayed. Oh well. We finish up with lab around 7:20, when I hurry to the Gymnastics meet. I missed
vault, which isn't so bad (it's sorta my least favorite), but I missed all of the
senior ceremonies, too, which is a big reason that I really wanted to go to this one. So, nuts. I did get to see our gals do the bars, the floor, and the beam, though. The gym was packed.
We won, it was awesome. After the game, around 9:30pm, I went out downtown to grab some food (I hadn't eaten since about 11:30 at work), went home.
Most of the weekend I just clowned around in my apartment doing homework, fixing my computer, and cleaning up a bit. In the end, everything's about the same: I'm still behind on my homework, my computer's still not working right, and my apartment remains a mess. I called Berkeley on Saturday and left a message asking them about my application.
Monday Was class and work as normal. I got a call from Cal on my way to Bowling class. They told me that because I wouldn't be attending until Spring that my application wouldn't be fully reviewed until it was time to review spring applications because they didn't want to give up a spot to a student who would be able to begin classes and research immediately. In other words, I won't know about Cal until about October. That's good and bad. Bad because I won't know about my status with my number one choice until after everybody else, but good because by the time the department begins to review applications, they'll already be familiar with me and have seen my application. I will have also applied about a full year early. So, while it sucks for me in figuring out what I'll be doing come August, it also raises my chances of getting in. Anyway, after class and work, I Went and saw an advanced screening of
V for Vendetta. I really, really recommend it, especially if you're the kind of person who would appreciate a "literate hero."
Today's been mostly just class and work as normal, too, though I'm very, very tired. I just have a lot of stuff I've been running all over with. Tonight at 7:30 is the
Orchestra's Mozart concert thing, which Warren is in. I really like seein' my bro up there on stage kickin' ass, so I can't miss it. Tomorrow after class I'm going to
Santa Clara to return a Hard Drive that's improperly formatted, then taking a 180 turn and heading down to the
South Almaden area to buy a
tripod (since I'm looking to sell both of my
digital cameras to buy a newer, more serious one). Thursday after class at 10:30 I'm going to poker with
Mitch and some of his buds. Should be fun. Also in here somewhere I have quite a bit of studying to do. I four midterms next Thursday - Advanced Research Methods, Intermediate Statistics, Ethnicity in American Lit (which also has a large take-home component), and the take-home Short Story midterm is due. Intermingled with all of that studying is at least two assignments in every class but Bowling. All of my professors want these things before spring break so that they can correct them during that week off, but none of them seem to really understand that I have four other professors who are wanting to do the same thing. My only class that doesn't have a mid-term next week is the Psych Honors class, which just has a massive assignment regarding my own personal research (which I have no idea what I'm going to do on).
I'm not sure about my plans for Friday yet. I might go up to Berkeley with some other SJSU athletics fans to see the
final Gymnastics meet of the season, then do St. Paddy's stuff up there, or I might just stay in San Jose and drink with some
lounge people. Either way, I'm not going to be in Turlock this weekend.
So, to recap: I'm going to be extremely busy over the next two weeks. Once it's all over, I also have
work on Saturday the 25th, just at the beginning of Spring Break. Oh yeah, I can talk about that. What will I be doing over Spring Break? I'm planning on driving to Turlock on Saturday night, borrowing somebody's automobile, and driving it up to Tahoe on the 27th or 28th and coming back on the 31st or 1st, then going back to San Jose ASAP. I just some time to relax and rest, which Jmoney just happens to be awesome at doing, so I'm going to try and mooch that vibe. Turlock's too hectic to be a break anymore. I get people asking and bugging me to go here and do this or see them and do that and I don't really care because all I want to do is sit on a couch with some friends, play video games, drink, and laugh and not do a single bit of homework or have any obligation or responsibility to see anybody or do anything for them.
