#29: Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince

I already knew that the Harry Potter movies weren't really made for me. They were made for people who read and enjoyed the novels. I've not yet read any of the novels, and now that I've seen six of the movies, my desire to read them is no higher. This latest entry in the super-popular franchise has all of the same things that annoy me about the other movies (unnecessary plot elements, wasted characters, Ron and Hermione getting demoted to the sidelines for the movie's final act, too many characters, and so on), but less of the things I like (such as dragons or giant spiders or, really, monsters of any sort).

In fact, what the movie really needs is (like the rest, save the 1st one) a more skilled director or screenwriter-someone who can do the deed of retaining the movie's narrative and flow while at the same time doing so in a way that a viewer whose only experience with the story is via seeing the movies. Or, since I'm not the target audience, maybe not.

Here's hoping that the next movie will have some monsters to keep the rest of us entertained, though.
