#27: Public Enemies
Public Enemies stars Johnny Depp and Christain Bale. It's directed by Michael Mann. It's set during the 1930s. It's filled with action and gunfights and violence and mayhem. I should have liked it more than this.
I'm not sure why I didn't like this movie more. I suspect it was spending too much energy trying to portray the 1930s precisely (which it does VERY well... worth seeing the movie just for this, in fact!). But I think, more to the point, that despite the fact that Dillinger's an interesting character, his life and the period of it the movie chronicles just isn't as cinema-friendly as it feels like it should be.
I don't regret seeing it. I regret that it wasn't better, though.
