Summary: This is the first part of a verse featuring Sam and Dean being the most awesome parents, Jared and Jensen being eight years old and classmates and, of course, Brian Kinney being Brian Kinney.
Note: After certain people forced me to make a verse based on a weird dream of mine, I finally couldn't resist any longer. But seriously, this is as AU as it can get.

Jared Winchester hated going to school. It wasn't that he didn't like it in general; he loved learning new things and feeling well educated. He always felt like he was on top of the world when he had done his homework extra well. Sam's eyes would shine with pride and Dean would clap him on the back, obviously impressed.

It was the other kids that Jared couldn't stand. Well, not all other kids. But one boy in particular he hated with all his heart. You see, Jared didn't fit easily into school. He had already a few inches on the others boys, he was too gangly, too loud and laughed too much and ate too much candy. Jared always had to work hard to make the others like him. He didn't understand it at first, because Dean had always told him that everyone would like him if Jared were just himself, but Jared was a smart kid and he noticed rather quickly that Dean had been wrong. Jared had made a few friends that even liked him with his weird sense of humour and his strange-looking floppy hair, but it hadn't been easy and he couldn't understand how someone like Jensen Ackles would turn friendship offers down so easily.

Everyone wanted to be friends with Jensen. Jensen just wanted to be friends with himself.

He was everyone's darling, perfect in the eyes of teachers, parents and other kids and he just... kept to himself and talked to no one. Jared had once tried to be friends with him. It had been their first day of primary school and Jared had been nervous as hell when he had come into the classroom. He had been looking around the room and had spotted a free chair next to small blonde boy with a lot of freckles, who had been staring out of the window ignoring everyone else. Jared had walked up to him, moved to put his bag down, when suddenly green eyes had focused on him with unadulterated confusion. Jared wanted to smile at that boy, but the blonde just sniffed and turned his head away again.

It had been that very minute that Jared's epic hatred for Jensen Ackles was born. Jared had been forced to sit next to a funny smelling Charlie Calloway, who liked to pick his nose and later eat the contents of it.

Jared still kind of liked Jensen's freckles, though.

"You think he'd like that?"

Jared turned to look at his friend, who was standing beside him with a somewhat glibbery-looking frog in his hands. Brian Kinney was two years ahead of Jared and would soon get into Junior High and Jared already knew that he would miss him like hell. Brian may be young, but he already had a certain charm to himself that had Dean speaking of him rather nicely. Sam always looked strangely at Dean when that happened, but the most important aspect of Brian's charm was that it kept the bullies away from him and Jared.

"What do you mean?" Jared asked, obviously interested, and Brian pointed over to Jensen, who was sitting alone on a bench near the school entrance and was rather deeply focused on his lunch.

"He's looking kinda lonely, maybe he wants to make a new friend." Brian smirked and winked at Jared, before strolling over to where Jensen was sitting. As Jared watched, Brian rounded the bench and came to a stop behind Jensen, who was still paying no attention to him. Brian grinned at Jared over Jensen's head before raising his hands, thereby lifting the frog.

"Hey, Ackles. Here's someone who'd like to meet you."

Jensen looked up with a puzzled expression on his face and, despite his epic hatred for Jensen, Jared felt immediately sorry for him. Before he could get a warning out, though, Brian had dropped the frog on the back of Jensen's neck and laughed like a crazy boy. Jensen shrieked and jumped up from the bench, doing a strange looking dance while he tried to shake the frog out of the back of his shirt.

Brian was busy laughing his ass off and Jensen looked more and more desperate and humiliated, so Jared felt compelled to walk over to them. He grabbed hold of Jensen, who began to struggle.

"Get away from me, you barbarian!" Jensen shouted and Jared paused a moment to contemplate what exactly a 'barbarian' was, but then he shook his head and yanked Jensen's shirt up. The frog immediately fell out of said shirt and landed on the floor. Jared didn't have time to survey the frog's well being, because the next moment Mrs. James was walking up to them with a stern look on her face.

"Jared, you care to tell me what you think you're doing?" She asked with a likewise stern tone to her voice and pointed at Jared, who was still holding Jensen's shirt up and therefore had him stripped half-naked on the schoolyard.

"Erm..." Jared stuttered and let go of Jensen's shirt quickly. Jensen gave an undignified huff and tried to straighten it somehow.

"These two" Jensen pointed at him and Brian "Were molesting me."

Jared didn't exactly know what molesting meant, and why the hell did Jensen know all these smart words, but it must be something bad because next thing he knew, he was sitting next to Brian in the headmaster's office, Jensen sitting across from them. Jared fidgeted in his seat nervously while Brian was shooting daggers at Jensen with his eyes. Jensen simply sniffed and raised his head up high, completely ignoring them.

"What do you mean, my son has molested another kid in public? You better listen, Ma'am. Jared is not some kind of twisted kid pervert and obviously this Jen-something is a liar."

Damn it, Dean sounded angry. He looked angry too.

Dean and Sam were sitting across the headmaster, who looked at them in a kind of pitiful way through the glasses pitched high on her nose.

"Mr. Winchester, I know your son is giving you trouble. It's not easy to care for an adopted kid, no matter what - "

"Mrs. Morgan." Sam interrupted politely and Jared could see that he had rested a hand on Dean's thigh under the table, trying to calm him down. "Jared is not giving us any kind of trouble. He does his homework, he helps cleaning the dishes and doing the laundry and he doesn't pee in his bed at night. I must insist that you ask Jensen again if it really happened the way he said it did."

Sam was being all matter of fact and Jared guessed that came from working as a lawyer for such a long time. He looked over to Jensen, who cleared his throat and started looking uneasy for the first time since Jared knew him.

"Maybe 'molested' is too strong a word..." Jensen stated quietly and Jared could hear Sam sigh.

Dean just rolled his eyes.

"I don't know why this Jensen kid is giving you so much trouble." Dean huffed while rummaging through the kitchen, trying to find something to eat. Or stuff his mouth, as Sam liked to call it. Jared was sitting at the kitchen table and Sam was standing next to him, leaning against the sink.

"Dean, calm down."

"The hell I'm calming down!" Dean nearly shouted and Jared felt even worse for upsetting him so much. Sam sighed and pushed himself off the kitchen sink, walked over to Dean and laid a reassuring hand on his shoulder.

"You know how it is in school. You can't get along with everybody, there will always be bullies that - "

"Brian was mean to him." Jared said in an almost whisper and both Sam and Dean turned their heads in his direction.

"Huh?" came the dumfounded reply from Dean.

"Brian was mean to Jensen. He dropped a frog on him."

Silence. Then Dean's intake of breath.

"Are you kidding me, Jay? This kid makes you look like a pervert just because of a frog?"

Jared winced. "He didn't do anything. He just sat there and wanted to eat and then Brian walked over to him and dropped the frog on him." Jared looked at the floor and started fidgeting again. He always had too much energy in him to sit still for even a second.

Dean just looked at him incredulously, but Jared could hear footsteps and Sam crouched down in front of him and lifted Jared's chin up to make him look at Sam. "And you didn't do anything to stop Brian?" No accusation, just curiosity.

Jared shook his head. "No, I didn't. And then I felt sorry and wanted to help Jensen, so I lifted up his shirt to set the frog free."

Sam had a hard time trying not to laugh, but he even managed to suppress a grin that wanted to form on his lips. "I'm sure Jensen will be over it by tomorrow."

Jared just shook his head again and looked at Sam with pure misery in his eyes. "No, he won't. He hates me. He'll always hate me."

"And you like him?" Dean asked from his spot on the other side of the kitchen table and Jared shook his head, his bottom lip a bit wobbly.

"No, I hate him too." Jared paused and sniffed. "I kinda like his freckles."

"Then stop looking like the world had ended and go make friends with him."

"Dean."

"Don't 'Dean' me, Sam. I can't see the problem here."

Jared's bottom lip wobbled a bit more. "I can't. He doesn't make friends with anyone. And he hates me."

"You already said that."

Sam shot Dean a warning glance and then turned his attention back to Jared, offering his son a reassuring smile.

"I'm sure we'll figure something out."

* * *

In Jared's opinion, Sam and Dean were the most awesome parents in the whole wide world. They always knew what to do and Jared was positively sure that no one had such cool parents like him.

Of course, the parents of the other children were couples and lived together while Jared's parents always told everyone that they were just brothers that took on a lost and lonely baby boy, but Jared knew better. He was sure his parents were a couple too, because Sam made a lot of money like all the other dads did and had bought Dean and Jared a real house. And he drove Dean to the Garage every morning and then dropped Jared off at school. And Dean made them both dinner and read Jared good night stories, before Sam would come upstairs too and they would both tuck Jared in.

Dean and Sam also shared a bed like all the other parents did and sometimes they looked a bit strangely at each other and Jared wasn't allowed to go in their bedroom on those nights. He didn't know why, but he guessed that was just what parents did.

Jared thought his family was perfectly normal.

Much more normal than the situation he found himself in right now. He was standing in the schoolyard a few feet away from Jensen, who sat on the same bench he sat on every day; ready to eat the same lunch he had every day. Jensen didn't even so much as look at Jared and Jared really wanted to be anywhere else than here. But Sam had been right and he needed to apologize for the frog incident and Brian wasn't around, so he had to do it alone. He steeled himself and walked over to Jensen.

When a rather huge shadow fell on him, Jensen looked up and immediately made a face when he recognized Jared. "What is it? You want to drop something on me again?"

Jensen sounded annoyed and Jared found himself blushing. "I... uhm... I just..." He stuttered and cursed himself inwardly for his inability to put thoughts into words. He rolled his eyes and unfolded his arms from behind his back.

He held a single and rather miserable looking daisy out to Jensen and kept on twisting it between his fingers, like he had done for the last two hours. Exactly the time he had needed to be ready to go and talk to Jensen.

"I... I'm sorry. The frog wasn't my idea."

He still held the daisy out to Jensen, who looked at it with a bit of terror in his eyes and Jared felt like he had been punched in the gut.

But then Jensen spoke up again. "You didn't plan on molesting me, Jared?"

And immediately it was Christmas and his birthday combined for Jared and the sun shone brighter and the birds were singing louder, because Jensen had never, honestly never, called him by his first name before. He had always just thrown words at Jared that he couldn't understand, like 'barbarian'.

"Nah, not really." Jared really tried to keep the grin off his face, but it was an useless effort. And then Jensen was smiling too, a tentative, shy smile but a smile nonetheless and Jared's mouth started to work on its own accord.

"I kinda like your freckles."

Jensen smiled even wider and took the daisy out of Jared's hands. "I kinda like your hair." He replied and Jared's life started being awesome after that.

The next day, he could move from the nose picking Charlie Calloway to the seat next to Jensen.
