Grandfather's funeral

Wow, a complete change of LJ's look. I have been gone too long.

In any case, my grandfather passed away last Friday.

It's odd, because I didn't cry much. I guess I'm too much of a loner, I'm used to being alone so it doesn't bug me too much. I did feel sad, not only because he was gone but also, in large part because death is so random. You live, and then you die, and you have no idea when you're going to die. Makes life seem rather pointless at times.

In any case, my grandfather was a Korean vet, a mechanic with two service medals. The funeral was today. At the cemetery there was an Army honor guard. They played Taps, fired 21 guns, and released doves. The casket was draped in a flag. Later on I was given one of the shells from the rounds that were fired.

It was good to see some family I hadn't seen in ages. It's too bad we don't do that more often.

Before he died, I would hang out with him and play video games, mostly the Zelda series. I wonder if I will miss him if I continue playing his save file. I'm not sure, but I hope the games aren't ruined for me.

He also took me along to toy train shows, since he was a fan. There were a few shows, and a dinner train, that he wanted to go to but didn't. I may consider going to those anyway, just in his memory.
