The failed costume

Starting in mid March I attempted to make a lab coat for an evil genius costume for three different local cons. I figured it would be easy to make... ha ha ha.

First problem was I bought the wrong type of fabric and couldn't return it to the store, because I had pre-washed it (which is what you're supposed to do to ALL fabric anyway!). That was $20 I can't get back, and I guess I could try to sell the fabric.

Second problem was I bought a pair of $10 gloves online only to find them in a local store for $5. Plus, the store brand ones fit way better, the internet ones are too tight. Guess I could sell those too.

Third problem was that the proper boots were $30 online. I was able to find cheap Walmart boots the wrong color for $12, and then spraypaint and clearcoat for about $8.

Then, instead of working on the costume the last week before the first con at the end of March, I spent the time driving all over town buying scrap material to make an arm death ray prop.
So, the coat was not ready for the first con.

It was down to the last minute, but I almost had the thing finished by the second con. When I tried to fit it, though, I found the sleeves were too tight. Plus, they pull up a lot under the arms. Fixing it requires taking off material at the top of the sleeve (easy) and adding material to the body of the lab coat under the sleeve (impossible). So, the costume was not finished for the second con.

The third con is this weekend and I doubt I'll have it finished by then, as I have yet to figure out how to fix the sleeves and experimenting is taking a while. Since I have no plans after this con, god knows when I'll use this damn thing. All of this would have been adverted if I just spent the $60-70 for a lab coat online.

Then again, don't know if I'm going to the con because my car's making noise, so who knows.
