Sunday night I got into an argument with my mother.
I had been there for an hour or two taking care of things, and was getting ready to go to my grandparents house for a bit, as they don't like me getting there late. My mother comes in around 7pm-ish. She wants me to help put up the tree, so I start putting up the lights and stuff.
Then she changes her mind and wants me to put up a new thermostat. I say that I'm running late but she says "The instructions say it only takes 15 minutes." Obviously my mother has never done any home improvement projects, because they NEVER take as long as you think they will. Sure enough, I need a tiny screwdriver to deal with tiny screws on the new thermostat.
I get to the point where I have the old thermostat off the wall, and find the mounting holes for the new thermostat do not match the existing holes. The walls in her house are some sort of pressed wood chips or something to that effect, in other words they're hard and wood(pun not intended, giggity).
She expected me to put it up anyway and went into her usual "Why?" spiel where she asks "why" a gazillion times when I say I can't do something, like she's a kid.
So I tell her I could just leave the new thermostat dangling on the wall but she tells me to put the old thermostat back up. She asks me why I don't have my drill with me to drill new mounting holes (because no one told me to bring it!!!) and why it's at my house instead of hers (because it's MY drill). Gets angry that I don't have my drill with me. Complains about how it gets to below 60 in the house. Bitches and whines about how she won't have constant heat. Thinks I can magically fix the problem. Yes, I can just beat the fucking screws into the wall with my god damn head. Cuss words were exchanged.
It's like a bad marriage. I cannot drill holes into the wall without a drill. She needs to accept that instead of whining. I offered to leave the new one dangling on the wall, or taped to the wall, until I could drill the holes, but I guess not. She'd rather freeze. I hate to say it but I almost wished that she would freeze. Either that or she can learn how to do home improvement herself.
mother,
