Well this has been a bit of a crappy week. As I type this from Jenni's uncle's house, I keep on getting phone calls from my family. My mother's been admitted to the hospital. She's stable but they want to keep an eye on her.
A while ago she had heart fluctuations and so has been on some kind of medication. She said she's been having panic attacks, numbness and tingling in limbs, and fainting spells. Her doctor recommended a CT scan, but she sat there and gave all sorts of excuses to try to get out of it, such as "the machine's scary, what if I have a panic attack?" or "What if they find an inoperable brain tumor?" And I tried to tell her that it's more likely the doctors will find something that if not treated eventually could kill her. Had it been me I would have been dive-bombing that CT machine.
So she seems to have gone through with it, and then they needed to do an MRI for a better picture, but apparently she had a mild stroke, and some kind of blockage or arterial flap in her carotid artery. She also had pretty high blood pressure.
When I found out she was in the hospital I felt worried and panicky even though me and my mother don't get along all the time. But it seems they caught it before it was a major issue and are just keeping an eye on her until she gets treatment and surgery to fix the problem, which may be this weekend.
Just the other day, I was to call into work in the morning. They told me that they didn't need me, so I proceeded to go to the laundromat to wash darks, including my work clothes. Leave it to them to call me after I have the clothes in and tell me they need me bad because it's busy and a buser didn't come in. I tried to explain that it would take 2 hours or so to wash and dry the clothes. They wanted me in by 12:30p, I rushed the clothes through the dryer and because I just missed one bus didn't get there until 1:30p. Then they put me on my least favorite job, doing dishes, and I had to work until after dinner. Bleh.
And then, there was the epic journey to find a strand of 35-50 count multicolor lights to finish my Christmas lights for my apartment windows. Seems every store was virtually sold out of almost all their holiday lights, especially the 35 and 50 strands. Last night, I visited 9 stores one after the other down two roads, walking and riding buses in 2 hours. I visited a Meijer, Target, and Lowes at one corner, then walked to a mall with a Home Depot, Kroger, and CVS Pharmacy, then rode a bus to a Dollar Tree, then rode a different bus to a Wallgreens and a second CVS, and it was only at the second CVS that I found a 50-light set, for $1.50. So I finished my Christmas setup, with a 3-outlet adapter and two extension cords to create a brilliant fire-hazard to celebrate the holidays.
I am ready to kick back and spend tomorrow just watching movies and relaxing. Since there is no dinner tomorrow I called my mother this morning and left a message offering to go to a Chinese restaurant. Guess I'll be going by myself. Bah humbug. I'd go visit my mother in the hospital but I don't have a car to go and no buses run. I'd also go check up on her dog as he's probably lonely and shitting all over.
Ah, what a fucked up holidays.
holidays,
mother,
